I wanted to bite on this, but I don't think I'm going to do it. I still have the Urban Worship Extreme, Jason White, Mike Bereal, and Urban Pro 600...all of which I'm not even half way through. I need to come up with a better way of applying the things taught in those DVD's to my arsenal. It's hard to pass on that kind of deal, though, especially when I've been trying to improve my soloing.
Anyone tried out the Soloing and/or Gumbo Phatness DVD? How is it?
Nah, i don't think i will jump on this one. I still haven't been through the other DVDs i have so there is no point in getting these yet.
You've heard it before, but I'll say it again:
Instructional DVDs aren't movies! Don't sit on your couch and watch 'em with popcorn.

If you do that you won't grow. It's a cycle (one that I was caught in). You see clips of the DVD, you think "Man, if I get that I'll learn some sweet chords/runs/progressions!!!!!". Then you get it and learn nothing.
The way you learn from these DVD's is simple.
Put the DVD on and watch it WHILE sitting at your board. When you see something you wanna grab, pause and rewind until you get it in the key he/she is doing it in.
Then TURN OFF THE DVD PLAYER.
Sit at your board and practice that chord/progression/lick/run in every key. Then practice using it in a song. Once you feel like you have added that chord/progression/lick/run to your arsenal and you have it DOWN, then go back to the DVD. How long that takes depends on you. It may be an hour or two, a day or two, or a week, but make sure you own it before you move on.
I got my DVD's on Saturday.
SirTJ, the Soloing DVDs are pretty good, and the Gumbo DVD is decent.
The Soloing DVD has enough licks and solos to keep me studying for a while, and the Gumbo DVD has a few things (not a lot) I want to pick up.
