Evans Onyx line heads, anyone gonna try em?
« on: February 07, 2009, 08:42:32 PM »
Just saw them on the Evans site. For the toms they go up to two 7.5 mil layers, and for the kick it still uses a 10 mil single ply,but with the upgraded emad ring.I'm running EC2's now,but i'm thinking of going over to G2 coated for my batters.Since my current set is basswood and basswood is a mellow warm wood that doesn't project well and the EC2's follow the same suit i need a head to counter balance the basswood.

You would be better served going with the G Plus head which is single-ply 12mil and the GMAD kick batter.

Just a heads up, we have the Onyx heads and the EC1 snare head (:-X) in stock.

The Onyx heads are great. I experimented with them, and that EC thing, on a 10 12 16 Rockstar. They offer a full body sound, exhibiting decent highs on the toms, and a cavernous roar on the floor tom. I also noticed that the extra 1mil makes a dif. We have G2 coateds on a Gretsch Renown Pure Wood mahogany kit, and the G2s almost felt a bit papery in comparison. :-\

Aesthetically the black does nothing for me. I guess it's geared toward the metal brats ::)

In any event, I hope to run a test with them on a higher end kit soon ;D
