Topic: A PERFECT PITCH DRUMMER? (Read 3529 times)

Hey whats up everyone. Its been a minute, but everything is good. im competing in the Battle of the Bands on Saturday so anyone in Nashville come out and support!

Getting back to the topic:
I just realized I have perfect pitch and I have been playing music since the 5th grade. None of my teachers in middle or high school never pick this up.It was my percussion teacher that saw I had it when I tune the timpanies without any help. Being curious, does any body here have perfect pitch? Its suppose to be a big thing if you have it.

i have it i mean its cool and all but its not all that, my boy has it he started of as a drummer now he plays keys too his lgm name is metronome. i think yo guys should venture of to a tone instrument seriously!

Me too....think mine is centered on certain notes, like F, A, and Bb.

Yeah i play keys as well, and I've got perfect pitch, i realized some years ago but up until then, i thought everybody had it

Yeah, I'm one of those cats. We worked on perfect pitch in Sophmore Theory my 2nd year of college and it took. It helped be it that I played other instruments too, and comes in handy when I'm the musical director for a band as well. A keyboard player friend of mine would test me in rehearsals and has yet to stump me.

But yeah I got it.....its pretty bad too. Out of tune singers and instruments=ANNOYANCE

I feel you. Can't play transposing instruments (and don't press that Transpose button, that disorients me).
One of my 'friends' used to annoy me by singing flat on purpose...

I know that gets to me more than nails being scratched on a chalkboard.But is real cool to see some people on here with it! At my college its three people(including me) with it and I know a dude at my old high school with it. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE WHICH GOSPEL SINGERS HAS PERFECT PITCH THOUGH

Since this is in the drum room, what are the pros of having this outside of playing melodic percussion as it relates to 'standard' drumset playing?

With marimbas, vibraphones, etc, they are already tuned (with the exception of the tympani, as they sometimes have to readjust during the piece), and you don't need to guess what key you're playing in, as what you need to play is on the 'paper'. Are there many situations in which you have to tune a drum to an indefinite pitch (note that drums are not capable of having a definite pitch like the tympani, but I digress as that is a different topic altogether)?

Will it improve your playing ability, or is it a nifty thing to have as a drummer?

U actually developed perfect pitch? What exercises did u go through to get it? I want perfect pitch.

Good question....for me it helped me "hear" what was going on in the song......and like in rehearsal settings if somebody got stumped i could just tell them what to play instead of making it an all night process with them.....
