I know you may take this lightly coming from me especially since I'm not known on the boards but I'll give you my 2 cents. I think you have nice chops. I think the song calls for less hihat work but I didn't write it so I can't really say that but I would suggest taking the simple route on this song just so people could feel the music. The music felt cramped and really couldn't breath to me. God Bless.
You're right. I don't care what you think... I don't know you!
Just kidding. What does being known have to do with making good suggestions or giving good advice? You're good, man. And thanks for even leaving some feedback. 51 views, but only 2 posts. Hmmmm...
Actually, I get everything you're saying. And the reason the hi-hat is so busy on this is because it's the opening song... the attention getter. And when the horns are added, the hi-hat will feel more natural. It's a busy song, kind of along the lines of Teddy Campbell's work on George Duke's album "Duke" on the song "Trust." Don't know if you can tell, but in the spots where the verses are going to be played, the hi-hat was more mellowed out, and subtle grace notes on the snare were added to kind of set up the sax solos.
I ALWAYS consider people's feedback when I record. So thanks for your "2 cents". They're actually worth more than that!
This sounds really good man! The only thing is that the piano sounds thin and it could be a little more out in front. Other than that man you have really nice ideas. Let me know when this project is complete. I will definately buy this joint! Keep up the good work
Thanks, Sheen. Yeah, man... this is just a REEEALLY rough mix. No saxes have even been recorded. I'm also thinking about doing another take with a different snare with more body. I think it may sound a little more "grown-up" with a little fatter snare.
I appreciate you guys actually GIVING ME SOME FEEDBACK!!!!
