Please help!!!!
« on: January 13, 2009, 05:23:31 PM »
 ?/?
Hello Everyone,
Thanks for all of the chord help that's been provided here. It has given me a great start. I pretty much know most of the chords and how to play. My problem is simply listening to a sound and applying chords to what I hear. Is there a rule normally used when playing by ear on what notes should follow others. I have watched a many piano players and it seems once they know which key to play a certain sound they pretty much can play the song rather they're familiar with it or not. I guess my question is, once I find the key and starting chord, how do I know where to go from there? Thanks for any help...

Usually what I do is listen to the choir/person sing the verse and chorus one time through. While they are singing, I try to recognize the pattern that they are using and that the song is going in. Once, I have it, I play.

Now I don't know how advanced you are, but it seems that to me that you have trouble finding patterns. My answer for this was to learn many many songs. Not for the chords, but for the pattern and progressions. You will here that a lot of songs sound the same. Well by learning these patterns, you can apply these to different songs.

                        Hopefully this helps,
