Hello

Everyone  I have not writted anything in while.  However, you all seem to give some good advice.  I play for a small baptist church. I came from an assemblies of God church but had to leave.  Right now the church that I am playing for does not know how to worship God.  Whenever, I am exalting the name of Jesus they look at me like I am crazy.  The choir members dont seem excited about God at all to me. I have been praying for the Lord to send me some where else so I can experience corporate worship again.  When I was at the other church the spirit would come in and take over.  Now at this church it is just dead and traditional.  I feel like I need to stay and work with them.  I dont want to give up on them. Do anyone have any suggestions?  thanks

WELL BROTHER YOU CAN KEEP PRAYING FOR THEM FROM A DISTANCE, FROM ANOTHER CHURCH!  I MUST SAY THAT NUMBER 1.) THEY MUST BE TEACHABLE IN WORSHIP...TAKE CLASSES OR SOMETHING...WORSHIP IS A RESPONSE TO THE LORD.

AND THIS ONE IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT...2.) YOU MUST HAVE A REVELATION OF WHAT PRAISE & WORSHIP IS.

OUR PRAISE TEAMS MUST FIRST LIVE THAT LIFESTYLE OF WHAT THEY SING...DON'T BE SCARED TO GET SOME BOOKS ON PRAISE AND WORSHIP...THERE IS ONE I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CALLED "WORSHIP THE PATTERN OF THINGS IN HEAVEN" BY JOSEPH L. GARLINGTON.

IF THEY CAN'T GET IT, YOU MUST MOVE ON....DON'T STAY WHERE THE GLORY CANNOT BE HOUSED!

MUCH LOVE!  ;)

Consider that often times people in church are wrapped up in bondages of ALL kinds;including denomination, oppression etc. Some don't know "how" to worship,or
relax and ENJOY HIS PRESENCE!!! Perhaps your pastor would be open to to you speaking at a service and explaining what you're doing;open their eyes and ears to the liberty in CHRIST of the various styles of worship.Like the Psalmist said" praise HIM with the voice,tamborine/flutes,lyres,trumpets,organs;in the dance etc., ad inf.."Pray and ask for outpouring of HOLY SPIRIT,sounds like a pastor said"frozen chosen need some HOLY SPIRIT HEAT to thaw out and get on FIRE".Course,it has to be "TRUE WORSHIP'" versus manufactured;heard a message last week contrasted the dead service versus the manufacture one.BOTH are abominations, balance is in the middle. be blessed, pray 4 you

Praise is either manifested or seen. Expressions of praise is outwardly visible. However, worship can be "quiet". If a person has a relationship with God, that person won't have a problem showing praise. And honestly, I can't see a person truly worshipping if they have never really praised.

Gina, talk with your Pastor about "teaching" worship. If you are at a traditional church, that church may not have ever gotten teaching as it relates to worship. Coming from a stern traditional background, I know this is possible.

I was MOM at a traditional Baptist Church. The Pastor asked me to begin a time of Praise and Worship. I sprung it on the congregation one Sunday and they looked at me like I was crazy. But I didn't allow their stares to stop me. But also, I conducted a week long conference which taught indepthly on praise and worship. You got to teach folks from the Word of God where they need to be.

Thanks Sister T
This is a good thing to do.  When I read Psalms it mentions shout unto God; make joyful noise; sing; clap; dance.  I agree your heart needs to match your praise.  However, sitting and looking is not praising. when people go to football games they clap, shout and do all sorts of things to cheer and praise for there team.  Why dont do the same for God.  I think teaching on praise and worship is excellent.  I will definitely talk to the pastor about it.
Now Worship is totally something different.  I dont expect people to be crying and slobbing, foaming from the mouth but at least be motivated and excited about the man who died so that we can have access to the Kingdom of Heaven and live life abundantly.

What is worship? How can you worship without speaking(hallelujah, which is the highest praise) or raising your hand(shabach etc.)? Yes God can read your mind, but I know he's more deserving than that.
Not trying to be a nitpicker, but Hallelujah is not the highest praise, although everyone says it is. Nobody has shown me that phrase in scripture. Hallelujah is a command to praise. "Halle-Praise, Lu-you, jah-God" ="You praise God"

Song lyrics promulgate a lot of stuff.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallelujah

...and I read on the wikipedia entry for "alleluia" that...
"The Hebrew word Halleluya as an expression of praise to God was preserved, untranslated, by the early Christians as a superlative expression of thanksgiving, joy, and triumph."

I didn't see a source but that sounds likely.  If that is the case, then Hallelujah may not biblically be the "highest praise" but they reserved it as such.

Great response. That is why we have to be careful about the song lyrics we present to our congregations. I think the highest praise may be what is described in Rev. 4:8-11. But I dont know if that describes human high praise or angelic/heavenly creature high praise.
