I just dont know what to do anymore!!!!!!

Hello people of God. I have the biggest problem right now.I'm a musician of course and I can play most of the new stuff. But the older songs are sooo hard for me to get. It's like people dont post them anymore. And when they do, not trying to be mean. But they absolutely dont sound right. I've even checked vanbasco. I'm tired of being fussed at by my mom, my Bishop, etc. Because I dont know them, But I really do try and learn them though. So i ask you guys Where are they? I cant find them anywhere. Songs like

How great thou art
He touched me
My God is real
The old rugged cross
I'll fly away
Precious lord take my hand

Can you guys help me? It would be the BIGGEST blessing in the world to me!!

Do you read music? Some of these songs are actually very, VERY easy to play. You can listen to them and follow along with basic chord progressions. I think what your MOM wants is for you to be able to play them as they are written in the hymnal with the right bass notes and all that stuff.

I would say do a search on LGM, i am sure someone has chorded out these hymns. I remember seeing them a while back. If you read music to some extent, get a hymnal and figure it out from there.

I suggest that you buy a hymn book. Everbody seams to like the African Amercan heratige hymnal . I use and recomend the "lead me guide me" and the Yes Lord Hymnal, as well as a few others.

 If you cant read music, it is very easy to learn. Just get a teacher and you'll be at the hymn playing level in couple of months.

Of course you are gonna have to Jazz up those hymns. To do that, I suggest listening to clips on youtube or buying dvds. Those will give you a bunch of Ideas.

You could also give me your email address so I can forward you a few of those in midi format, so you can practice alongside the midi or if you can plan it out properly, you can play the midi on your board & you "synthesize" over it..

Since the same hymn can be played various ways, do you know what "sound" is acceptable to your church?

As chevonee pointed out Sam Tolbert has an excellent site for hymns.

There are also countless free piano tutorials on Youtube.  Just do a search on Youtube for example piano hymns or search specifically such as Blessed Assurance piano.

The African-Amercian Hymnal.  That's what my teacher has me playing out of. And I think it's pretty good.  Easy and it also sounds great. I suggest it!
