HEEEEELPPPP!
« on: August 13, 2008, 07:40:08 PM »
Tonight was the night ALLL the kids came to choir rehearsal... oh boy!  :o Everything went to smoothly! However, I'm having a bit of a problem.... all the kids wants a mic to themselves!  :-\ I've tried to explain to them they all can't have a mic to themselves. And actually none of them do have a mic to themsleves because the mics are on the stand!

So how do I explain to a bunch of kids between the ages of 4-12 that they can't have a mic to themselves?! Of course the older ones no better.... its the younger ones I'm having a problem with! I've tried to explain it to them..... but they just don't wanna hear it, they wan't their own mics! Or else they aint gonna sing! LOL

What should I do?!

First off, WHY ISN'T ANYONE SUPPORTING THE M.O.M. ROOM WITH THESE QUESTIONS?! >:(  :D

Just explain to the kids that it sounds the best when everyone can be heard equally.  I can't believe we got divos/divas at such a young age..... ::)

Tell the kids it's not American Idol, they have to share, because there are not enough mics for everyone...then have a talk with their parents.

:D Yeah, I didn't realize that till after I posted it. I guess I'm just use to posting in here  :-\!

And yeah, the kids are a trip! My lil godsister just does NOT wasnt to share a mic AT ALL, she was literally having a fit, she thinks the mic is just for her and her alone! Then I noticed one little boy had his arms folded across his chest, and just refused to sing. So after rehearsal he came to me with tears in his eyes saying he wanted a mic! I was trying to explain to him the best way I could! But he wasn't hear me, he just kept saying I know but I want a mic! LOL

Because very few people visit the MOM room compared to the lounge. Also because the topics are allowed to stay, instead of being moved.

As for Britt's situation, I say tell them where to stan, and then tell them not to move. Oh wait, You said they were 4 years old? Well that might not work.

I would seperate the mature kids form the little ones. Its not fair for the older ones to have to in the same group with the babies who dont know how to act

Yeah, that could be an option! But there's only like 3 little ones... everyone else is like 6 and up! Their fun to work with... its just that mic issue! Maybe next rehearsal I'll stress more about having to share the mics! They stand still and everything, they do everything right except for sharing the mic! LOL They want to be heard! LOL

Is it possible to remove the mics during rehearsal and then re-position them during service? Or maybe position them so that their out of reach to the little ones?

Tell them you don't negotiate with terrorists.  :D :D :D

Ask the older ones to help you explain to the younger ones.

If that doesn't work, tell them that God isn't pleased with their desire to 'show off'. He can hear them just fine without an individual mic.  ;) 8)

Ok we are dealing with kiddies here lol so first patience is key and knowing how to interact with them is another thing. Maybe the mics should be taken away at first and just focus on the song and gaining "that respect" meaning teaching them who is boss in a loving but tough manner. Alot of kids honestly dont know certain things that "we" take for granted such as sharing and being polite. Make it a "family" atmosphere and make it clear that we are a "body". Alot of parents just let their kids go wild these days to you have to TRAIN them thats why I was always say it starts at home.
