I was bored so thought I would post pics of my church's drum set and my snare......I have never posted any pics of them so here they are.....

Yamaha Recording Custom (All Birch Shells)

22x16 Bass Drum               (Evans EQ3 Resonant and EMAD 2 Batter)
10x9 Tom
12x10 Tom                       (Remo Ambassador Resonants and Clear Emperors Batter on all toms)
14x12 Tom
16x14 Tom (not set up)


Premier Modern Classic 13" x 7" All-maple Snare    (Remo Ambassador snare side and Aquarian Studio-X Batter)
I was just trying out the head. I liked it. I have the stock snare wires and getting new ones soon.
Any Suggestions??????????

(The drummer that used to be the main drummer at this church got all these cymbals...so I did not get to choose them...I would have never gotten the 15" and 14" crash...hate those...The Ride sounds good and was already there)

i see you got the 14" aax crash. is it a studio crash or just crash crash? how does it sound to you? i have it and i hate so bad i hardly use it. i have the 15" aax studio crash and its my favorite cymbal. it just sounds perfect

Try the Puresound Custom wires. That's my suggestion.

Post a clip of it. I want to hear how to older RC's sound.

For cymbals I don't go for anything lower that 16" because they just don't have enough body and they don't cut through the music like bigger cymbals do.  .

..."I" would definetly keep that 15" A Custom Crash.  Ask Vinnie and Marvin McQuitty about it.   It's a great one to have off to the left of you.  You can give the 14" Crash to the percussionist. lol


...alright man to be honest see if you can find a nice 8x8 tom and you're good to go.  You'll have a semi Carter Beauford thing going on.  Recording Customs sound sweet with the 8".  That kit sounds amazing man.  Understanding the kit and where it wants to be tuned is the key.  In other words, don't try to make it sound like Calvin Rodgers kit just because it's a Yamaha. LOL  I'm pretty sure you know that. LOL

...as for cymbals...what do you like?  Zildjian?  Sabian?  other?

I feel you soul, I despise small cymbals! yuck. I am currently playing with my 20" Ride, 20" Crash and 20" China. lol. Lovin' it. Now, now, I still do have and use small"er" cymbals. But my taste is definitely 18" and up.

Nice looking kit looks like a joy to be behind. Looks like a Pearl Eliminator belt drive pedal?? true?

For some reason 12/10 Toms are a lot easier to tune.

I need some more "F/X" Stuff. That sound percussion deal that shaped like an "X" I can't think of the name. I think its a great effects cymbal.

Yeah dude....the 15" is pretty cool but not as one of my main cymbals...like you said....it's nice to have on the side...I do need a 18"...I love that size as a crash....I also need a splash (since i'm the main drummer now....the church will be buying some new cymbals...sick) I usually go with Sabian but not limited to it...if I see a Zildjian or any other that I like I get it...I do hate that 14" crash...there's no point to it for me...it's just like a thick big splash...lol....I don't like it......Yeah man I learned to love the Recording Custom (at first I didn't like it)......it's not like other drum sets.....it's different....at first I was trying to tune it like other sets but ended up wasting my time......I went one Saturday to church when we got new heads for the whole kit determined to figure out this kit......I was at the church for about 5 or 6 hours just understanding where the kit wants to be tuned....trying differnt tunings...messing with it...I think I did a pretty good job...i'm still learning though.....but now I undersatnd the kit waaaay more......I love it now....I'll be on the look out for that 8" tom now..........yeah dude no cowbell...lol.. ....dude we are a Latin church but we don't really play a lot of Latin...I know it's pretty weird.....I still want to get one though....I'm learning to play differnt styles now....because of a gig I got....so I'm learning a lot of Hillsong and different artist that sing that same type of music...it's cool playing that type of music.....i'm just trying to be versatile....

...Yeah I think the ride at my church might be a 20" inch too.....

I personally love the 221's and the Twisted Series. They give me the texture that I want.

the Sabian Chopper which Jojo uses, the Vault Will Calhoun Alien Disk  - even use it  as a bottom hat. Or the Meinl Electro Stacks designed for Luis Santiago and the Gen X ones designed for Thomas Lang.

An 18" Crash/Ride will be plenty big. Crash/rides are thicker so you don't want to go too big. The 18" AAX El Sabor Picante is a nic choice... Jojo uses it and it sounds amazing, plus its dual purpose. The 18" AA El Sabor in traditional finish is a slightly thicker alternative that does double duty quite nicely. I have play it before and loved it. Fact is the El Sabor series is made for riding and crashing period. To Scusherman uses a couple 20"s as crashes. You could go with a light ride and us it as a crash as well.
