I think he(Rev. Wright) was trying to be metaphorical.

Well, since you're gonna PARAPHRASE the guy, I guess I have no choice but to listen to the clip and see exactly what it is he said so I can give an informed response.

Let me tell you upfront, though, I have ADD and I truly do not have the attention span to listen to lengthy clips and things... if I don't find the clip quickly and don't hear that sentence quickly, I probably won't bother at all.

The fact that a photo of Rev. Wright shaking Bill Clinton's hand at the White house should blow this whole thing out of the water and close it down.

"Jesus was a poor black boy raised in a country controlled by rich white people" give or take I'm paraphrasin'!

There is a God!  LOL!  I found the clip on the first try, and he made the referenced comment within the first 15 seconds!  ;D

Okay, I'm no historian, so I couldn't tell you how accurate Dr. Wright's assertion is.  But, what he said was that the country and culture was controlled by the Romans who were Italian (-->European --> White) and ran everything.

Are you asserting that this is inaccurate or untruthful?

And as for the poor, black boy part... I mean.... Jesus wasn't Black American as you and I are and neither were the Romans White Americans as some of our caucasian sisters and brothers are.  I don't think that's what Dr. Wright was getting at.  Jesus was born and raised in the West Bank.  I'm 100% certain Dr. Wright knows that.  He's a highly educated man.... I think he was strictly speaking about (1) their skin color, and (2) Jesus's minority status (which is where BFBT's comment about the metaphoric nature of Dr. Wright's statement comes in).  I mean, based on the information provided in the Bible, and a little basic geographical and historical information, it is more likely than not that Jesus had dark skin... not dark as in West Africa... dark as in West Bank.   :-\

Furthermore, does your Bible imply that Jesus was wealthy in any way other than spiritually????  Does your Bible imply that His natural parents, Mary and Joseph, were in any way wealthy?

3. I have so much more to say, but.... I guess I'll just save my breath.  I get the feeling if a highly educated Dr. Wright couldn't get his point across to you, surely my no-doctorate-having-self can't either.  :-\

You almost got my point here.......I spoke in reference to that part where he said Jesus was poor. In my mind it somewhat implies that Jesus had to go without on some occasions.....which I doubt.

Well anyway to top it off......as long as my salvation hung up there on that cross I'm happy!

There lies the source of your problem, bruh.  :-\

Glad I hung in there with you. LOL  :D :D :D

Isn't his whole reason for being here was to show us that he could do it, "like" us? If Jesus had to use his Godly powers then his whole point in coming would have been void. He came here to suffer and go through like us, without succumbing to the temptations and trials we face.

My bible does:  Matthew 2:11 ?And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.?

That's how he was able to take care of himself and his disciples while they journeyed.  I'm sure his parents kept that stuff safe until the right time.

Are you really implying that those gifts made Mary and Joseph (and Jesus) wealthy?

I just want to see where, in the Bible, those gifts are stored/kept and used again during Jesus' ministry.

And I'm listening to this guy fuming and venting about "what it is to be a black man......" and so on and so forth. He's blowin' up about "rich white people" running the country and the country Jesus grew up in. And how Hillary didn't this and Hillary aen't that. And he's so glad to have a God that knows what it is to dah dah dah.

Now I'm mad >:(...........'cause here are my people being washed down into this mess - age. Pattin' him on the back an' sayin' Amen. Prob'ly got real big offerin' too! Boy I tell ya.......flesh will be flesh! now won't it?

First Point
I dare not speak of a man of God this way and after all I do have some respect for my elders. But unless he was there to see Jesus' skin color I doubt that he has the first clue what color his skin was. so every time he says that Jesus was black HE'S LYING!!!!!

Second Point
From the mouth of Jesus himself in John 19:11............
11Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
Sounds like Jesus knows he's king to me. Did he ever say that he knows what it is "to be black in a country controlled by rich whites"?
Now of course being my savior he knows the struggle. But not because he was suppressed (who can suppress God?) I would argue that he knows my struggle because he's ALL KNOWING!!!! (DUH!)

And my beloved are acting like they don't know no better. I bet ev'rybody found their way to his prayer line.

If I must.....I will set things back in order the best I can.
To my understanding there are four most important things to know about Christ.

#1) He's Lord
#2) He died for me and you (with all power)
#3) He rose for me and you (with all power)
#4) He's coming back for me and you (and he will have all power)

Please no more of this Black or White Jesus thing!!!!!

Yeah, I was a little stumped on that, too...

There's no way Jesus could've been wealthy.  No way.  He wouldn't be Jesus if He was.
