Yamaha Motif vs Korg Triton Extreme
« on: March 04, 2008, 05:34:13 AM »
Can anyone tell me which one should I buy? I never played on one of them ,but I hope there is somebody that can help me.... I work a lot with sequencers .I read everything I could on google about both Korg Extreme and Motif ,but I still don't know which one is better. I don't really trust only "texts" , I need facts.  ?/? and maybe you can tell me the advantages/disadvantages..... Thanks

I've actually never played either extensively, but I'm pretty sure you're going to get a heavy leaning toward the Motif here.

What sounds do you value most?
(Acoustic) Piano? Electric piano? Stings/pads?

I say to go the to music store and actually try them out. Anyone can tell you anything, just like the "texts" online.

I'd go with the motif, because I like good Piano, Rhodes and organ sounds.

If you dont like piano good sounds then get the triton. If I were to get a triton, it would only be used as a second bouard, for horns and strings or other synth sounds

I've never been impressed with the Triton.  The extreme probably has some improved sounds over the original but I'd go with the Motif  esp. if it's the XS version.  Also, don't sleep on the Roland Fantom either.  If I was looking to get a Korg, I'd look at the M3 unless you are more in the market for something used.

i would go with the fantom over the two other boards the fantom is only lacking in the organ section other than that the fantom is a beast

I make a lot of music ,and I use strings, horns, bass, guitar, drums, pads, piano (of course) ,and some synth .it's very important for me to have a cool realistic piano sound

your 1st choice should be a roland fantom X series or if your going used then you can get an S series for really great prices.

but between the two you asked about motif will be more sufficient than any korg

I was thinking Fantom too. I thought the Fantom organ can be tweaked. Plus you can control the drawbars on the Fantom.

Fo Real? how? I tried it at guitar center, and there were no good organ sounds for church use

I couldn't imagine trying to use regular keyboard organ sounds in church unless it was just for accents.

I've used the Motif's organ sounds for hymns and for playing behind a soloist, but thats about it. But I've fooled someone with the motif organ, I gave a recording to my teacher of me playing  a solo on the motif, and he asked me why I wasnt playing pedals. I told him, cuz its not a real organ! And this dudes been playing for 40 years.

Maybe your teacher has just been playing the organ but not listening to it.    ;D   Anyways, I'll use the Motif organ on a gig if I didn't feel like hauling out the CX-3.  As much as I love the CX-3, I don't think it would fool me either.

LOL EXACTLY........i asked this question a long time ago on here...............the replies were interesting....you'd be surprised at how many small churches dont have organs.  I could never do it either.  They never sound "right" lol.  If the organ aint workin..........we goin p&w all day......vice versa too.  if the keyboard is broke/at home....we straight church

My mother has this ANNOYING habit of asking me to play the Organ on a keyboard whenever we visit another church that doesn't have an Organ.

I ALWAYS tell her "Ma!  It's NOT THE SAME THING!"   >:(   ::)

I was thinking Fantom too. I thought the Fantom organ can be tweaked. Plus you can control the drawbars on the Fantom.

Even with that being said, the Organ on the Motif is nice.  You can also control Drawbars (using the sliders) and Leslie (using the Mod wheel) on the Motif.  You just have to choose the right voice.  They don't all let you do it.

The Triton has one of the BEST Strings voices I've heard on any board EVER.

I think it's called SyrupyStrings.  Unbelievable.

So the Triton is better for synths (except for the strings ) ,and the Motif for real sounds? Because until now , I'm looking forward to buy a Motif....Unless the Triton sounds more realistic...
