Billy Kilson...
« on: March 03, 2008, 10:48:41 PM »
...one of the drummers that I admire a whole lot.  This dude is for real and studied with Alan Dawson which was Tony Williams teacher.  Some of yall cats might not know him.  Either way, here are some clips of him.  Real Musician at work here. ;)  I absolutely love the energy he brings to the band stand.  Pay attention to the musicality and the way he's listening to his "surroundings".  (Other Musicians/Musical Phrases being played.)  It's not about "him" but rather the big picture which is the "music".

Yeah the Salsa is nice... still it sounds like my 21" Tri-Top, though I still want it for the look.

Aside from that Billy Kilson is a gifted professional! I dig it man. Too bad this type of dedication is so under appreciated here. Thanks for the post!!!

Thanks for the vids. Billy Kilson is that dude! I first heard of him back when he was playing with the Dave Holland Quintet. He killed that gig!

Dave Holland Quintet.

I know that it's not truncated like that, but still.  The person knows who this comment was directed to.   ;D

His right hand is sick. The way he's accenting the hats when he kicks of the funk in the first vid is siiiiick. Great post, I'm a fan.

Yeah he uses it in the most of these videos but in "Why not" it couldn`d be salsero ride becuse it looks and sounds different

...on the last clip he's using an HHX 22" Manhattan Jazz Ride.  One of my favorite Sabian Rides.

Here's another clip of Billy killin' with the Dave Holland Big Band. I love the way that he structures his solos and how animated he is when he plays.
