Tech Help Again, Sorry
« on: February 19, 2008, 12:28:26 PM »
Since we have some pretty knowledgeable techs here, I need your help one more time.

I have just got a leslie 122, the amp will get power (rotor and horn spin), but the tubes don't glow and there is no sound coming from it.  Any ideas??

Did you change the tubes?

If so, are there any loose connections?

Yes, I got all brand new tubes for the organ and the leslie and I'm pretty sure they are in there as tight as they will get.

I'm not an electronics whiz but sounds like you may have one (or more) bad transformers.  If you have a tester and a schematic, you can test the output voltage yourself.  If not, you could have a tech check it out for you.

The B3 w/ the leslie only cost me $1500.  If it was the fuse, would the rotors and horn still rotate?

Ok, it wasn't the fuse.  I put a brand new fuse in and still the same thing.  Any other suggestions??

Thanks

time for a real tech to bench test it,was the 122 working before?  any friends with a 122 amp;swap the amp out of the cabinet-if it's the leslie amp send it to rick@tonewheel hospital or another well spoken -of local guy .looking @biting the bullet myself  a new 122 amp runs about $500

Let me add my support by saying Rick Prevallet is an excellent tech (not to discredit anyone else). I stand behind him 110 percent. If there's a problem with your amp, he will find it. I've had him rebuild a couple of my Leslie amps. His work says it all.

I hope you're able to find the problem. BTW, you might want to subscribe to the Hammond_zone Yahoo group. Surely someone there can point you in the right direction.

That' s just a part of being subscribed to a mailing list.  :) You can set it to digest mode where you only receive like one email containing all posts from the day. Or you can set it to no emails at all and just check message thru the website. Alternatively, you could create a separate account solely for the purpose of mailing lists.

I've talked to Rick already, and I'm gonna break down and send him the amp.  The good thing about it is he can give me an estimate before doing any work.  When I described the problem he told me that it would be no more than $300 and that was just a high end estimate.  Could be a lot less.

On another note I finally hooked the B3 up to my leslie 45, and it sounds WONDERFUL!!!  That thing is LOUD!!!!   Don't think I'll be getting rid of this organ, EVER!!!

WAIT A MINUTE!!!!! did you hook your B3 up to your 45 with a kit or pre-amp?  the 122 and 45 seris ARE NOT compatible -if you hook a 122 up using the same  kit as the wrong seris-that may be part of your problem;check this out before you have a fire !

I think there is a kit in it.  I don't know!  Glad you brought this to my attention.  There is a 5 pin connector on the inside of the organ (if you take the back out)  Somebody drilled a whole through the back panel so that leads me to believe something is installed in it!  At the bottom of the organ where you would normally connect it there is a  5 pin connection.  What type of kit do I need.  What does this kit look like?

was this 122 hooked up to the B3 when you bought it? if you take the back off, should have a 4x4 silver box off to the side with black red leads to terminals on the B3 preamp ,one with an insert that a tube goes into (12bh7) on the left side of the preamp near the transformer.other lines go to the power supply ,down the tubes by the volume switch to the outbox by the pedals.a stock B used that 5 pin for a pr,hr,jr seris  tone cabinet.a 6122 or 8000 kit was used to connect a leslie, for a 122 (has the wiring to switch fast/slow etc) the 4x4 box.sounds like your' s has been set up for a 145 seris which is why the 122 won't work.probably lucky,if was wired for a 122 and you plugged in  your 45 might have had some smoke.you may have damaged your amp-TIME to get a tech B4 you create some real problems

See thats just the thing, theres no tech here in Alaska.  I talked to Rick from Tonewheel general and he said that whatever box is in there should work fine.  There is a kit in there, from the pictures on tonewheelgeneral.com it looks like a 6122 kit.  I think I'm gonna go ahead and send the amp to him just to see if the amp works or not.  At this point I think thats my only option.
