This Is a trick that is done by many of the jazz legend its call a tritone sub. u can use this to add more flavor to ur progression as well as build tension.

Key C

DA/F-A-C-E....2.....Dmin9
GD/F-Ab-B-D....5....G7b9
CGC/E-G-B-D....1....Cmaj9

Now 4 my Tritone Sub i want to use D the tritone of D is Ab
AbEb/G-Bb-C-Eb....Abmaj9
GD/F-Ab-B-D....G7b9
CGC/E-G-B-D.....Cmaj9

Notice the tension in the sound, it almost sound like u are going in another key. this will keep ur congregation on the edge of there seats.
