TO ME TRANSPOSING IS LIKE CHEATING ON A TEST IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER YOU COPY OFF OF SOMEONE BESIDE YOU... A GOOD MUSICAN KNOWS HIS/HER INSTRUMENT IN AND OUT A GOOD KEYBOARD PLAYER CAN PLAY OUT OF ANY KEY ON DA PIANO,ORGAN, OR KEYBOARD THAT'S WHAT MAKES HIM/HER GOOD.... TRANSPOSING IS A EASY WAY OUT OF NOT LEARN YOUR MATERIAL.... I JUST LEARNED HOW TO PLAY OUT OF MY WEAKEST KEYS.... SO AS OF NOW IM ON MY WAY TO REACH A NEW LEVEL IN MY PLAYING.... NEVER TAKE A EASY WAY OUT OF LEARN YOUR MATERIAL IF YOU DO YOU WILL NEVER BECOME AS GOOD AS YOU WANT 2.... REMEMBER LEARN EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR INSTRUMENT DON'T CHEAT YOURSELF....

All I can say is tell himt o get behind a real piano and let the choir or singer(s) change keys while he's playing........ :o :o :o :o
We have a young guy that plays for our youth at church and he has the same handicap - T R A N S P O S E   K E Y on his keyboard, that is ,so he never goes near that piano and I have seen a couple of times when his transpose key didn't work......HMMMM......not pleasant to the ears when that happens :'(

2day I played 4 the whole service @ church because all the players were absent.
Ok, I was shaking 4 the 1st 10minutes  & was failing to keep up because the singers go up a key for every verse (I'm not lying..but they don't want to believe me ::))

Anyway, when I sat at those keys, I thot of this thread ;D

I tried the transpose button once or twice, but it was pointless because I was playing on low vol & they modulate a key up every verse (unintentionally :P).

So I knew then the importance of mastering all the keys :o
So I dropped the transpose Idea & played some very very basic melody notes & the bassline for the songs in G, E, Eb,Bb & A.
The others , especially near the end, were a blessing because they were in Db & F#,so i held my own there.

But some "traditionalists" were not very pleased that I played piano 98% of the service....i just thought they can bugger off bcos I took it upon myself to learn & then go & embarass myself in front of 250 people ::) :P

What did I do after church?: I got home, practiced some of the songs I couldn't play correctly in all the keys.

2 dudes came to me afterwards wanting to learn to play. I told them they must have passion because I won't cheat on them teaching 1 key.

I'm sick of a people who only play Ab etc!! some notes on the board are wearing out quicker than others now U know!! >:(

I agree with everyone who has said that using the transpose is cheating...I truly believe this....I mean how can you learn...when you're using the transpose all the time...I'm so glad God has blessed me with the ability where I don't have to use the transpose....so I say this if you're keyboardist coming up...don't use the transpose because it will hinder you're growth and you're trust in God....cause through God we can do all things!

SO DON'T CHEAT!!!!!!!!!.....BE COOL AND TRUST GOD!!!!!!!!

I thought guys here were really insensitive & mean when they were condemning the use of transpose.

But the guys are really trying to help ressurect those who think there is no life after transpose ::)

I took this message as a constructive block & it just took me playing the melody line of the song I wanted to play in all the keys & adding chords to it thereafter.
The chords , I ripped off from the chorded scales chart.

So if I can do it, any 1 who thinks they are masters in whatever few keys they play in, can get familiar with all the major scales in 2 days (that's how long it took me!!) & can master them all in less than 3 months.

So come on guys, get your act together & be a true music ambassador ;)

Tell me if this guy is modulating nicely or transposing:

http://zone.hearandplay.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=5714

ok, I'm not slamming fellow players, i respect any1 who can hit a single chord.
At the same time I encourage them to learn to play chords in all keys. :)

I've some very cool basslines from the dude playing there.
He is also keen to learn all the keys 8)

Hello LGM family,

On last Sunday afternoon, there was an afternoon program held at a church where I play, and I was playing the organ as the guess musician and his choir walked in.  I asked him if he would like to play the organ which DOES NOT transpose, and his reply was,  " I dont play the organ because I need to play an instrument that ......................."TRANSPOSES". I was saying to myself oh ok. By the way, he was a good musician, but I did  notice him using the transpose button alot. Please take the time to learn ALL of your keys because whenever you play a babygrand or an  upright piano, which are neither electric. what are you gonna do then? Food for thought.

Have a blessed day!

That's just it no one takes the time to truly practice in all their keys anymore...they just think well all I have to do is hit the transpose key and I'll be just fine....I mean come on....in order to get to the next level of playing you've got to practice hard and not take that easy road....that easy road will make you weak while that hard  and difficult journey will make you stronger...just think about that for a minute and it's like you said mrspanish what are they going to do when they have to play on a baby grand or an upright piano...they have no transpose key at all....see that's where that hard practice of playing every song in every key comes in....learn to use your ear too instead of just hitting that transpose key and more importantly always and I mean ALWAYS seek God for help and trust that He will come through...so don't be so egger to hit that transpose key cause you don't learn from hitting the transpose key...that's doing all the work for you...but be more egger to practice ;). Be Blessed and much love.
