Im having trouble figuring out songs. I know most of my chords and can pick out the melody line in almost any song but im having trouble matching the chords to the melody. Any pointers on what might help me out. Also I can use a lead sheet and chord the song but don't know what to do in between the songs to make them sound full. If anyone can help me on these two problems I would greatly appreciate it....
Thanks
As far as matching chords with melody, it depends on the song. Some songs have it set up nicely where you can play chords with the melody as the top note. You do this by usind different inversions of chords. Example:
Chord = C-E-G
Melody note = E
Play the chord like this: G-C-E
Some songs are just accompaniment only, which means the music and melody have nothing to do with each other.
Now, about the lead sheet issue, what you do inbetween the chords depend on a few factors. It depens on what sound you want, how much time you have between chords, what chord you left off of, and what chord you're going to. If I were to play a song by a lead sheet, I would go through and see what the pattern of the song is. Once I got the pattern down, I then add in my own flavor.
