That's exactly why Zildjian is increasing prices. They're probably getting killed by these new jacks in the game. It's also a test of loyalty to those that think Zildjian is the only cymbal to have. That's why I play Sabians(And they're not bargains either). And they have been good to me over the years. I haven't had to replace a cymbal yet. But if I ever have to make a change, I may try a new brand out.
Go custom Bro. Just do it man, you won't be sorry. I was a Zildjian loyalist, until I put my 20" custom dry Turk up against the 20" dry K custom. My Turk killed it. Every since that day, I was a believer in custom brands. Turks are basically just like Zildjian (B-20 metal) but the process takes way more time in making your cymbals.
See, you gots to understand that the BIG BOYS do not need you or care about you, PERIOD. You will not get an endoressment deal from Zildjian or any Big company, unless you are some phenom at the age 3yrs old. So why not help to built up a smaller company to become like a Zildjian or Paite. It's all in what you want to achieve in your drum career or hobby.
Man I have got to try those things out. I have heard a couple of the Octagon Cymbals though. The Octagons in Eric Moore's clip sound nice too! The "Big 3" is doing this because they know that people are still going to buy their products no matter what the price is. This isnt going to last long, people are going to get tired of buying over priced cymbals only for them to break in 6 Months. LDNDRUMMER plays Dream Cymbals, Dream Cymbals won an Award in the Summer Issue of Drummer Mag. I dont know what month issue it is I have to find it.
Octagon Cymbals are ok, and just that ,OK. First off, there made out of B-8 metal, not B-20. If you like a trashy sound, then Octagon is cool. If you hit cymbal kinda hard, you'll break them. They are very thin and they bend really easy. They aren't on Turkmasters level, but they sound ok. Not great. I played Eric's Octagons and my homeboy Will Bates out here in my neighborhood, so take my word on em'. Octagons are just OK IMHO and Professional opinion
