What do you think about this?
« on: November 01, 2007, 09:57:48 AM »
Ok, Well I have been thinking about turning one of my A Customs in to sort of an EFX type of cymbal. The one I really want to get cut is the 18" A Custom Projection Crash. Its simply too loud and over powering. I want sort of a trashy effect coming from a cymbal. I think that it would compliment the rest of my arrangement a little better. Its one of those cymbals that you hate so much, you dont want to hit it. :-\ It has darker sound quality and I think that cutting to holes would tone the volume down and also make it more trashy. What do you guys think?

The volume of the cymbal will not change (read: sound reduction) just because holes are in it.

The Volume really isnt a problem. Its just that the cymbal is somewhat harsh  :-\ I was thinking that If I put the holes in it, the cymbal would become more trashy and less harsh to my ear and blend with the rest of my set-up better.

So you want a harsh sounding cymbal to sound harsh AND trashy?
Just because you put holes in it doesn't make it any less harsh...

I say put holes in it & imagine that they're bullet holes (if you hate the cymbal as much as you do).

I need your mailing address to send you this:

It's called Contradiction (by Calvin Klein)!!!

Didn't you just say what I quoted above?

I then replied by stating the following:

The volume of the cymbal will not change (read: sound reduction) just because holes are in it.

You then stated:
The Volume really isnt a problem.

Can you make up your mind?   ?/?

*looking @ jkay*

Dude...  You're in his stuff like a old head on a pledge!  ;D

I will say that, no the overall volume of the cymbal was not effected.  However, my cymbal is more trashy....  not darker.  It is also more sensitive and for that I love it.

It was definitely an experiment.  One that sure turned out great.  All I can say is give it a shot and see what you think.  :-\

How do you cut holes in your cymbals? Do you take it to the shop? Tell me whats up?

Oh yeah, Juse, you have a Ddrum set right? What heads are best for those? You can see the one I have in the pic to the left.

One of my bass player homies cut it for me.  He is a metal worker.  I would dare not try to cut it myself.

I don't have a Ddrum.  I play PDP (for now).  I would proably recommend G2's EC2's for you and your situation.  They will probably do you the best justice.  Holla at Styksinmypocket.  He plays Ddrum.  See what he can offer...
