Well one ole school way to start is to take the hi hat away when you practice....just practice with the left hand right foot or vice versa....it worked for me....hope this helps.....as well of you're beginning I would encourage you to learn how to read from the beginning...then later on you won't struggle as much as many drummers do....

I see.... so you're have coordination problems. Coordination is pretty much the foundation for drums or any almost any instrument for that matter. You have to develope doing different things with your hands at one time. Now thats just the beginning. Then I would say try to add your foot afterward. If you can't do different things with your hands, then you can throw out trying to add your foot in the mix.

Just listen to some music. Do one constant stroke with your left hand, then do another type of stroke with your right hand.

Most of us drummers on here have had drum coordination since birth. lol. But if you are trying to learn it, it is a must that your practice it all the time to get better at it.

Praise Him with clashing cymbals!

...buy Tommy Igoe's "Getting Started" DVD.  It'll bless ya.

...After that, try to get with local cats in the area to learn from them.  Hang out at different music stores and watch different players play at the stores.  (If they let them play)  Watch, learn and practice.  Surround yourself with other drummers.

Dude, if you don't know how... don't sell yourself short. Learn to read music.

Stick to the bass!

;D

I see.... so you're have coordination problems.

Yeah definitely get it sorted. GNerd you should already have a natural feel for rhythm particularly if your the bass player.
Just transfer that from you fingers to your arms & legs (pretty much your whole body).

I personally spend a lot of time here, here and here (This one is mostly for general music history or questions I may want answers for).

Note: If you're not at least a little bit serious about drums & music (as a whole) and you only want a quick fix... The links above won't help you.

We've tried to do this many times but becaz of or deacons that have to close up the church tend to do it very early caz:
  1. Our church is located in a volatile area and i guess their "afraid" or just for safety
  2. Most persons at our church don't really appreciate our playing just a chosen few. Either complain dat it's
too loud, too soft, too worldy, too boring, We can't even back up the preacher during a sermon claim they
can't "hear" wen he's saying Amen or praise di Lord etc..after divine worship at lunch break, can't even play
a few soft songs like "Hear these praises" claim it's too loud again.
So dats our situation.

Welcome to LGM duchessbubbles!

There are a lot more female UK drummers than you think. We have a few here (Why is it I never remember their avatars!? ::) )

Anyway, don't worry. Hang in there & you'll be surprised when you find you're REALLY not alone out there.

God Bless.
