Lessons with Akira Jimbo...
« on: October 23, 2007, 09:12:22 AM »
...Let a master teach you something new or old to some of us.  Again, rudiments being applied to the kit.  Listen to what he says about Steve Gadd and how he made one of his licks his own.

...nah man....thanks to Akira.  The rudiment sounds crazy when applied to the different voices on the kit but it sounds even crazier when you add a few accents here and there.

Akira is serious.  You should check out his dvd Wasabi.  He gets deeper into his Gadd thing.

Sidebar:  Its funny to me that clips that have teaching going on get this type of response.... 4 replies to 100 views... 4% return...  I don't get it.  :-\

Akira is the man!!!!!!!!  Not only does he have chops, but his groove is Killer!!!!!!!  However, EVERYONE MUST get Pulse and Independence!!!!!!  WOW.  :o :o :o :o  I've seen them on VHS, I don't know if they're on DVD, but they need to convert them if they haven't already.  The guy is out of control!!!!!!!!  Mad props to Akira.  Also in Pulse, he plays with a bassist and it's absolutely AMAZING!!!!  Take care and God Bless.

I have PULSE on VHS.  If I am not mistaken, the bassist in that DVD is Tetsuo Sakuri.  He is a phenom by himself!  He did a tour in 3004 with Dennis Chambers and Greg Howe on guitar.  Killin

I am always watching...  ;)

I purchased it when I was in the 8th grade.  I remember playing that DVD for my band directors (one of which is a drummer) and they were slack-jawed looking at those cats play.

And even cooler being that it's a 6/8 rudiment when cycled.
