I'm still having the hardest time understanding what direction your original post is heading...    What is your point?

this topic didn't go where i wanted it to originally go.....

Primarily, I wanted to shed some light on the extent to which spanky's influence is
being felt (Through the vid of that drummer on youtube) and i also threw in
the myspace page of jdrew (I liked the track....and he's an obvious fan of spank)

I didn't do such a great job    , so when the topic evolved, i followed the
direction in which it was going (what ever direction that was)...

you right cherri...we all have areas to work on

Exactly. WHY spend so much time mimicking other people? To me, that is a royal waste of time.

It's not so much mimicking people as it is just adding more to your arsonal.

I'm sure his main goal wasn't to try and sound exactly like Spank, and Chris, it was to add a lick to his arsonal that he thought sounded hot.

That's what I do when I practice. I'll take a Calvin Rodgers lick and practice it until I get it downpacked then later on I use it whereever I can fit it in...

the first dude wasnt trying to hide his influences or what he was trying to do.. he wrote down his agenda ... trying to cope licks and expand.
Maybe, while he was using their licks as a catalyst, he was able to come up with something that was unique to his style. who knows?
The first dude was good, but i didnt like the sound of his kit.. $.02

Spanky and Chris are some of my influences and Im glad God has gifted them with an incredible talent so sponges like myself can learn a thing or two.
