This is why Weckl will always be one of the greats.
« on: September 12, 2007, 12:08:39 AM »
Most of us have been influenced in someway by Dave. Check out is solo in this segment from the early 90's. The part that amazes me most is around the 7:05 mark. His "ghost note type" fills are ridiculous. Weckl was doing stuff like this 20 years ago. He's nasty

Weckl is cool....

But those "ghost not type" fills are just variations of the 5, 7, and 9 stroke rolls.  Nothing that you cant do.

Yep.  I need to see this dude Live.  I've heard too many stories and I just want to experience a Dave Weckl Clinic and see the Ghost Notes with my own two eyes and glasses. LOL

A Customs aint where it is.  I know that the A Customs are the "flavor of the month" on the board...  Not too many that I have run across (including my 17" A Custom Fast Crash that I own) float my boat long-term.  I will say that the 12" and 13" A Custom Mastersounds are mighty hot.

I love My Fast Crash But I think that I might give up all my A Customs because they don't float my boat as far a sound either... Love the Hats though.. ;) Im looking into the AAX line Traditional Finish... I don't like the Brilliant Finish AAX's (Too Clangy)

I like the 18" AAX Studio Crash in B.F.  I play the 16" AAX Studio Crash in the N.F.  The 16" AAX St. Cr. in B.F. sounds funny. IMHO.  That's why the Five Star store down here in O-Town only carry the AAX Line crashes in the N.F.

  N.F. = Natural Finish

  B.F. = Brilliant Finish

It really doesn't matter if I learn how to do it at all, or anyone as a matter of fact. It's just the way in which he does it with such finesse a lot of us who can do that wouldn't be able to replicate the "touch" which Weckl uses. The man is nice and very inventive....who would have thought of that combination of ghost notes on their own in that way?

Meh, They sounded good then, but you have to hunt them down like Osama Bin Laden to get a good sounding cymbal!
