Blues scales seem to go w/major, Dominant 7th or minor/m7th chords ( C7 w/C scale, etc.)

Other chords have scales of their own - about anything with a aug 4th or 5th or a dim5 can go with a whole-tone scale.

Modes go w/chords in Jazz (like Ionian w/Major 7ths, Dorian w/minor 7ths), but I don't remember them all.

I am weak in the soloing runs department (am a chord person) but maybe you could refer to online courses or Jazz theory for more info...

So if you are playing in Eb major scale, would you use the Eb blues scale to do licks and stuff?  Do they have to go with particular chords or can you just play it throughout a song?  I also take it has to be a particular style of song too-I don't really do shout music or preacher stuff so I don't know if I would be able to really use these.  Thanks!

The chords' root usually matches the scale run - would you do a C# scale run with a C7 chord?

An exception might be ambiguous chords like dim7ths - then you could get away with a dim arpeggio or a chromatic scale run, depending on the context...

So the blues scale you use to do a lick will change depending on what chord you play?  No matter what key the song is in?  In essence if you play some sort of C chord, you would use the C blues scale.  Thanks for the help
