Guy if you are a drummer then you will very well know that everyone blames the drummer no matter who's wrong!!!!! From the get go of the choir coming in they were behind the beat!!!!!!
Lol, this is the craziest, and hopefully JFUNKY backs me up when I say this. I have played in big churches before and currently playing at a big one now. Certainly not as big as the church on the clip but its very large.....
IF you have played at huge churches, you know that when you play at a big huge church and the ENTIRE CHURCH IS SINGING TOGETHER, THEY WILL ALWAYS BE BEHIND THE BEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This will ALWAYS HAPPEN!!!!!! This is why you see drummers at big churches where headphones. If a huge church is singing together in UNISON, they will ALWAYS be on a different beat than the drummer.
Me, and the organist both have big speakers next to us so I don't have to wear headphones. OK, now the church usually claps when you hit the snare, right? But whenever the church is singing a hymnal together and I hit the snare, I don't hear the clap until about 2 seconds later. That is why I don't look at them, I look at the organist, because it is important we stay on the same page.
And the musicians in this clip were on the same page until the fill came in. When I looked at it again, I noticed that the drummer had a more slower tempo than how it was originally done by LEVI. BUT THEN he did the fill in the normal time that it was done in.
Now go back in look at it,you will see that ALL MUSICIANS were on the very same page up until the fill. All his licks were extremely precise. On every hit, the organ and the bass player were hitting with him, UNTIL HE DID THE FILL. Even after the fill, he slowed down and got right back on tempo with them!
