Do piano videos actually work?

Dear lgm family,

I want to buy A dvd from Hearandplay.com but before i do.
do they actually work?
can you really learn the basics of how to play buy ear.

It depends on how much time YOU give it. If you're trying to rush through, then more than likely something will get missed. But, if you take your time and study, I think you'll find it very valuable.

I'll second that.... :), and add the fact that it doesn’t matter how many times you watch it you can learn something new. I've purchased 4 DVD's and am still learning from them. They are a great investment.

I'll second this as well.  Like Jermaine says, as long as you put in the time for practice, you will definitely benefit.  He simplifies everything making it easy to pick up.

Yes they will certainly help, but you have to find the "right" video for you.



Its kinda like  signing up for college courses,  You wouldn't sign  up for a calculus class if you haven't mastered Algebra and Trignometry.


So its important that you find out what the DVD will cover.   Don't get blinded by the fact the the musician on the DVD is fire, because all the musicians can play.   But you want material that  you can  achieve ( given the right amount of practice).

Some videos are folks just showiing chops and not explaining what they are doing.


HearandPlay are good videos  though.

Greg Hanon is an excellent teacher. Jermain Griggs appears to be a great teacher too (I havent purchased any of his DVDs, but from the clips, he makes sure you get the opportunity to learn what he's doing and use it in something else, which is rare. Plus he gets good reviews too.) So like Jlewis said, it really is all about the teacher. I thinking PJ might be agood teacher too, but let me purchase one first to be sure.
