Electric kits? hmmm interesting
« on: March 30, 2007, 04:20:42 PM »
?/? ..... I was never to exited about Electric drum kits until I played a Roland TD -20 at Guitarcenter last weekend! I could never play It at church or nothing because there nothing like the sound of an acoustic kit but to tell you thr truth I was acually having more fun on the E-kit more than the DW's and other high-end kits they had out on the floor... I love the different sounds that you can get out of them and the way you can plug your Ipod into it and play off of it....  8)....Hey I think I like It enough to get me one ... Man that thing gon make me have bad credit at 17..lol.. ;) The Hart Dynamics kits are pretty sweet too! tell me what you guys think... ?/?

PS: Please don't bash me because of this thread I thought it would be an interesting topic to talk about...lol;D ;D

Yeah man they are fun, I have that Simmons kit they sell at GC and I switched the module to a Yamaha DTX I bought off ebay. So when I can't get to my acoustic kit(which I prefer) I jam on the e-kit. The Simmons is pretty good it gets the job done if u do not want to get n 2 much debt. I recommend a better module though something w/ more sounds and sound options(this is where the money is).

I am an Acoustic guy myself but that kit was interesting to me... :-\...Like I said I would never play it in a church..PERIOD... I would use it for studio work though for something different ya feel me? ;)... But i have to say that they have the best sounding E-kits today! :)

Thats actually a interesting post, since Im playing one soon in a concert setting!
They are a big help when it comes to concert halls where the acoustics of the building dont suit the "needs" of a "real kit".
The TD-20 with all the extensions makes a lot of fun! also because you can hit as hard as you wont to without destroying the bandsound.
You just need to get into the module and into the feel. But thats a matter of time!
Im playing the TD-10 at least once a month for over 6 years now so im used to it. But i like an acoustic set more. thats for shure.

But i often have to decide: Edrums vs. Drums (played less than quiet :) )
I would suggest the E-set then. But only if its a TD-20 ;)

TD-20's are great kits but the Hart Dynamics kits are really stepping up to the plate! I will never play an e-kit over an Acoustic kit unless the music calls for it.... :-\...E-kits are alot of gun to play but like DH said they are tough to get loose on!!

My best friend had a set of the original Simmons drums that started the whole craze.  This was about 20 years ago.  He let me keep them all the tme, and I learned them back and forth.  I would play them along to Prince ad Ready For The World records.  When it came time for talent shows at school, we'e bring kits, electronics drums, and synths up in there.  We would turn it out all the time, but this one girl seemed to win EVERY talent show she entered, so we just decided to play in them for fun.

I do prefer acoustic drums overall myself.  There's nothing like that sound.  It just can't truly be captured in a sample patch.  These new style of electronic drums just don't appeal to me for some reason.  they just don't feel right.  They don't reflect your emotions that you put into them.

I had actually thought about trying to find me some old Simmons drums to have for old times sake.  I just may snatch some up if I can find them in good condition.
When you've done your very best, do even better.

I actually seen Omar Hakim play an electric kit and he made me forget that the thing was an ekit. I personally prefer the feel and sound of an acoustic kit but it is possible to pull a good sound out of an electronic kit, according to what I heard from Omar Hakim
My goal as a musician is to be better than myself.
