Progressions, Progressions and more Progressions.

It would be nice if it was divided into sections for:

Dissonant/crazy progressions

Churchy/Traditional

Mainstream changes that you can apply to everyday playing. (2-5-1's, 5-1-4's, 3-6-2-5-1's, etc, etc.)

and Talk Music

The section for chord changes on the Eddie Howard DVD was a bit brief, and the one on PJ's Organ DVD is also brief (though the substitutions and Passing chords were KILLER)

Of course the onscreen Midi keyboard is standard now.

One thing I'd like love would be to have a seperate CD with Midi's of everything he did on the DVD (which is what Jamal Hartwell does with his Videos.  VERY helpful).

It NEEDS to be applicable to both the organ AND the keyboard.   :-\

I think the DVD is very good and technical, but one thing it lacked was PJ taking a couple of songs and playing them in his way and breaking down some chord changes, like John Peters and Jamal. The easiest way to learn progressions is when they are done in songs, you can get the phatest chords or progressions but if you dont know how to drop them in songs they are useless. I do like the DVD because its good with the theory but more practical could help too.

looks like he answered it to me.

In the new DVD he would like to see the progressions learned dropped into actual songs for example applications.

As I re-read, the post, maybe he was critizing the previous dvd,  but the above is always a good learning methodology.

IMO, more progressions aren't needed.  If you want progressions (in any key) go to:

http://www.learngospelmusic.com/piano/progressions.php

But the truth of the matter is, you give people progressions and they CAN NOT apply them to songs.

Whatever you do, remember its all about APPLICATION.

Personally, I think he should do an entire DVD dedicated to "Shouting and Preaching Chords" (in the key of B) :)

Now who's going to buy that? LOL  It'd have to be in the key of Ab for it to really sell... ;D

I think this DVD should have exercises showing you how to switch keys, Alot of musicians are getting stuck in only knowing how to play in one key, so they hit the demon button. If we could get some exercises showing how to modulate or get in the habit, that would be helpful. Be blessed

Practice Techniques.

Alot of people practice, but if you don't practice RIGHT then you won't learn the things you want to learn.

All the things that we see PJ and other top gospel musicians do is a result of their practice, so learning this process for learning would be invaluable.

It's something you don't see much.  People will show you movements, but nobody shows how to PRACTICE to get these things down.

Some on-screen notes would be nice.  His hands are so fast, it's hard to see what he's playing sometimes.  Although he is a very good teacher, and he does do a very good job of explaining things.

That's a good idea. Really I think you should do a series of DVDs around $20 instead of making long DVDs.  Sell the DVDs as separates or as a pack. I think more people would buy them. Sometimes you just dont have $60 to pay. Maybe make them 1 hour long.
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.
