some more words about hammond mans dvd
« on: March 17, 2007, 09:22:40 AM »
I did a review of this product last month

since then i have explored it more thoroughly

it is difficult to give a good review after watching a project this involved after one or two viewings

well since we have been snowed in i have had the opportunity to watch this dvd several times well in reality a few chapters several times

I would like to give some observations
first of all

for the more intermediate players and those who can play by ear
you will find a wealth of information in the later chapters

there is a chapter titled chord changes where hammond man reveals many substitutions and chord approaches

his soling section also offers some interesting concepts
this entire section from chaper 22 to 29 offers so much information you really cant digest it all in one or two sittings
i expect to be learning from these chapters for the next couple of weeks
of course most of it is not readily accessible simply by listening to hammondmans explanations
the stuff goes by very quickly

my suggestion is to play these chapters and use your ear to learn the stuff you need to learn

this is one of those use the pause button and rewind deals

but it is well worth the time and effort

hammondman reveals some real jewels here

again with tapes such as these you cannot make an adequate assessment until you have digested the material fully

I took notes on the chapters on super imposed chords
fourth chords
layered chords
melodic and harmonic scales

trust me if you are a beginner or an intermediate player there are many things on this tape to really dig into

and stuff that will keep you busy for some time

because he really drops about a years worth of lessons into a compressed four hour dvd

i like the fact that he really encourages you to practice in different keys

there are some funny things about this video that i will not mention here but sebastian and hammond man will hear them from me trust me

I really recommend this dvd

of course my earlier comments stand
as to some of the negatives
but by the later chapters the playing and examples are very good

but the explanations are less precise but that is due to the complexity of the chords and the speed of the progressions

this is a dvd to dig into on a saturday or a day off
let it play while you are on the computer or are practicing drills or cleaning up
and you will catch some really surprising sounds

if you want a dvd that just teaches you how to play a few songs
this may not be what you are looking for
but if you want to unlock the secrets of the organ and how gospel music is played then
definitely cop this project

and watch out for sebastians organ essential series
new project soon to hit the web

i understand he shares a whole lot of information

sure to take you to the next level

To be or not to be that is the question you anwer when you pray practice and read your word

In case nobody tells you, these reviews are very helpful.

 :)

I called Sabastian on Friday.  I was trying to meet him to buy the Hammondman DVD, but we couldn't hook up (He was in Brooklyn, and I was in Manhattan)

I'm definitely going to try again.

Thanks Diverse379.  It's appreciated.
