Dave Elitch in Shed Session 2 and in a Death Metal Band odd to me

I saw this drummer Dave Elitch on the new shed dvd trailor,I had seen him on youtube and  I wanted to find more about him. I googled him his name came up with a myspace. I looked and found he was in a Death Metal band,now I am not trying to start anything but death metal and God dont mix. I was wondering if anyone knew about this. Heres the myspace link again not here to offend anyone I am just a tad confused about this.

a.spears plays for usher...spank plays for diddy...brian frasier-moore plays for aguilera...chris dave plays for me'shell...etc. do these artists mix with God better than sinphony?

personally i don't see an issue with dave elitch being on a drum video. he's a drummer.

Yea I understand your point,I this found it odd that he would be doing gospel and death metal.Because they are the exact opposite of each other,I was just a little shocked when I saw the name of his band. The spelling of it was a bit weird SINphony.

Dave explains his background in his own words on Shed Sessionz Vol. 2, so I won't speak for him other than saying that he is my friend and brother. His most recent band is Daughters of Mara on Virgin Records. By the way Ronald Bruner Jr. also plays for Suicidal Tendencies... Thomas Pridgen plays for The Mars Volta... ect. I pray for ALL of my brothers... and I hope you will too.

I recently had a great conversation with Sabian Knight and we touched on the subject of "gospel" musicians playing secular gigs. I think it is a very relevant issue that is disturbing to me in many cases. However, truth is truth and many of you might be shocked if someone released a true expose' on "gospel musicians." Stay prayerful...

Is every musician in church saved?

Do churches require their musicians to be saved? or do they just need to "kill" err Sunday?

If you play gospel music, are you a "gospel musician?"

What if you play more secular music than gospel, but you were raised playing in church? Can I still call you a "gospel musician?"

I had someone send me some music the other day that I thought was Death Metal. But after listening to the message they were actually preaching the word of God in song. It was their interpretation. I have to admit, I was stunned... Was that Death Metal or "GOSPEL?"

I want to say playing secular music for me is just like going to my 9-5.......For me its one of the major ways that i make my living....But it does not alter the fact that i am saved by the Grace of GOD!.....There will be times where you will be the only church that someone will see....Its important to make sure that you are always on top of your game, because you are being watched, even when you dont think you are being watched....You have a gift.....its up to you to cultivate your gift...Church has been one of the best places i have had the chance to learn different styles of music.....But when i started playing secular....I learned how to play them right.  Not saying that all church musicians play music and styles "WRONG".  But i know for me, when most of my gigs where just church gigs, i played every CHOP i could imagine and at 100mph.  So when i got out and started playing on the scene(secular) in my hometown, musicians would say yo man, you got a lot of chops but you need to learn how to groove. So for me playing secular music changed my approach to music and helped me gain more vocabulary as a musician!

I have a question...Why is it that Metal musicians are always pointed out as being evil or devilish...but the Thug Rapper Musicians are not??? Can someone please explain that to me?

It basically comes down to ignorance of the unknown, frankly. But, rest assurred, musicians with the "thug look" are being frowned upon as well. It's just that, the people who you speak of, know very little about Metal, and they judge these people based on what little they've heard. I mean, to be honest, this is looking like a Black vs White issue, as well ... mostly Black people are "thug rapper musicians", and mostly Whites are "Metal" musicians, from the best of my knowledge. ...this topic is always made complicated by our excuses, but its such an elementary subject....the bottom line is you're either a gospel musician or you're not...and the transition from gospel to secular has been going on for so long, we've accepted it...and the sad part about it, most every top black musician that i know of started in the church, but $$$ draggs them into secular....however i do feel part of the blame rests on the church...most churches, especially if you're not in a major city, don't really appreciate the value of their musicians, and often times its not due a lack of funds @ the church....thats not an excuse(i'm just trying to see both sides) its all about choices...You decide, how much of your gift belongs to GOD???....if you came up w/ %100 like i did...well then i think you need to give it back to GOD %100,and lets not forget...YOU CAN'T BEAT GOD GIVIN!!!.apply that to ur life...just my opinon

1000% Agreeable, He's the only way, if you think about it all these other EXCUSES are cop outs, and it shows that you have no power,  a short lil testimony of mine is that right now, I do not have a 8-5 at all, but God made a way that I'm full time at my church, in which I was not looking for at all, now yes I'm still lookn for a 9-5 God has and is blessing more than when I was working and and playing part time at my church, but I strongly feel that if I had've not trusted God and went back to secular gigging which is and very possible, that would've been a smack to God's face, but thank God that I have enough power to resist that foolishness and put my trust totally in him, just my 2cents.

Man, it's simple...

Musicians want to get paid. Their are available excuses to use for playing secular gigs. I call them excuses because, from my experiences, 1 to 2 out of every twenty Christian musicians who play secular gigs, actually do more than just play and get paid.

Considering the church is so split on this issue, it makes it easier for someone to make that transition without much guilt, because their are people supporting you. I know people will say, "Oh, I prayed about it, and God told me it was okay...."

Hmmm, I should probably stop there.

feels like everyone is trying to guess the plan god has for their lives and the lives of others. I dont think its as simple as this is right and that is wrong. Everyone has a different path and in the end I trust god and his plan for my life and the lives of others.
