feels like everyone is trying to guess the plan god has for their lives and the lives of others. I dont think its as simple as this is right and that is wrong. Everyone has a different path and in the end I trust god and his plan for my life and the lives of others.

again we try to make this thing more complicated than it is...you're not guessing GOD's plan by following his will...ur gifts were made to uplift him 1st and foremost...now as an added benefit comes the blessings, favor, etc,....but ultimately we were made to worship....point blank......in order for GOD's plan to be manifested in ur life...you must align urself w/ his will, but if you feel GOD has lead you to play for R.Kelly, Usher, or whom ever, thats definitely btw you and GOD......"sex me" on saturday...."Lord I lift ur name on high" Sunday.....sounds like oil & water to me....but thats just my humble opinion :-\

...this topic is always made complicated by our excuses, but its such an elementary subject....the bottom line is you're either a gospel musician or you're not...and the transition from gospel to secular has been going on for so long, we've accepted it...and the sad part about it, most every top black musician that i know of started in the church, but $$$ draggs them into secular....however i do feel part of the blame rests on the church...most churches, especially if you're not in a major city, don't really appreciate the value of their musicians, and often times its not due a lack of funds @ the church....thats not an excuse(i'm just trying to see both sides) its all about choices...You decide, how much of your gift belongs to GOD???....if you came up w/ %100 like i did...well then i think you need to give it back to GOD %100,and lets not forget...YOU CAN'T BEAT GOD GIVIN!!!.apply that to ur life...just my opinon

*****IN CLOSING...lol, that path is STRAIGHT & NARROW....PERIOD...THE END....ROLL CREDITS

Man I agree with ya 100%...We were made to glorify/whorship God...God has given us all gifts and talents to glorify him...The bible says that "no man can have two masters"...you're either serving God with your talents or you're not...there's no middle ground!!...

Exactly....preach it...I totally agree with you....just like the Bible says:

James 3:10-12 -
10 - Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.
11 - Can both fresh water and salt[a] water flow from the same spring?
12 - My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

How can we produce fresh water on Sundays when we play and then during the week produce salt water when we play secular gigs? It just dosen't mix. God Bless You guys.

The Gospel of St. Luke Chapter 14...

The Parable of the Great Supper

15  ¶ And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

16  Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

17  and sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

18  And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

19  And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

20  And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21  So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

22  And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

23  And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24  For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

Think about how this could relate to GospelChops. ;) Some will get... some won't.

God Bless

Lets remember that scarcely shall the righteous enter the kingdom...

We all just need moreso than anything to rise to the level of diligence and excellence in our stewardship of talents, taking to the exchangers, and serving proper/required/excellent offerings, being prepared when the prince calls, be dressed for the wedding, RSVPing to the invititation and then showing up. Too many of the righteous don't believe in the need/requirement to show themselves a workman worthy in the realm of musical/minstrel service.

Vision + Diligence + Seeks Purpose = Recieve Reward in this world and the world to come (It is finished)

Don't get mad at the one whom will takes crums... or the centurian...  Simply BEAR FRUIT

Ok Childrens time to smarten up! Most of your so called gospel stars are out in the world making money! Dont fool yourselves, lots of secular artists are in the church making money too! Have any of you seen some of your in church musicians outside of church! Lets just say we all arnt going to heaven!

Death Metal is a style of music, just like gospel; is a style of music. There are saved and unsaved in both! God looks at us on the inside, man looks at the outside! Im glad some of you people arnt God! That tattooed, long haired, death metal drummer will be in Heaven whiles some of your pastors will be in hell!

And the funny thing is that your sinning Pastor in the one trying to tell the death metal drummer (who is living right) hes going to hell!

As Christians we are not to live our lives based on what others are doing or not doing. The Scrpitures state that we are called to live to a higher calling in Christ Jesus empowered by the Holy Spirit. Also, we are to imitate Christ, not man, whether that man is in the pulpit or the death metal band. That pastor in the pulpit needs to answer for himself and so does the death metal band member who used his talents to promote a style of music as opposed to the message of the gospel. Christianity is about a relationship with Jesus Christ and the free gift of Grace, period. We all need to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.

PSALM 1:1-2

Blessed is the man who walks not in the council of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, not sits in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law he mediates day and night.
"For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain".

hey man I can see where your stance is on Death Metal and God not mixing, but there are a lot of really really heavy christian bands, such as Norma Jean, Underoath, Demon Hunter etc... i used to find that kind of weird too but now i realized that all these bands are worshiping the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, hope this helps.

Why is it call "Death" Metal? In any case, this DVD ought to be REEEEEAAAAAALLLLY interesting.

Because It's very demonic, or were you just being sarcastic?

Dave explains his background in his own words on Shed Sessionz Vol. 2, so I won't speak for him other than saying that he is my friend and brother. His most recent band is Daughters of Mara on Virgin Records. By the way Ronald Bruner Jr. also plays for Suicidal Tendencies... Thomas Pridgen plays for The Mars Volta... ect. I pray for ALL of my brothers... and I hope you will too.

I recently had a great conversation with Sabian Knight and we touched on the subject of "gospel" musicians playing secular gigs. I think it is a very relevant issue that is disturbing to me in many cases. However, truth is truth and many of you might be shocked if someone released a true expose' on "gospel musicians." Stay prayerful...

Is every musician in church saved?

Do churches require their musicians to be saved? or do they just need to "kill" err Sunday?

If you play gospel music, are you a "gospel musician?"

What if you play more secular music than gospel, but you were raised playing in church? Can I still call you a "gospel musician?"

I had someone send me some music the other day that I thought was Death Metal. But after listening to the message they were actually preaching the word of God in song. It was their interpretation. I have to admit, I was stunned... Was that Death Metal or "GOSPEL?"

God Bless

The bible says shun the very appearance of evil, why would you play death metal music and throw in some words about god as the lyrics, thats like christian rap, to me it makes no sense whatsoever.

I have a question...Why is it that Metal musicians are always pointed out as being evil or devilish...but the Thug Rapper Musicians are not??? Can someone please explain that to me?

You got a serious point there for example jay-z calls himself Jay-hova cover up for Jahova which means god, he's a big example of rap anti-christs.  Biggie formed three six mofia, hmmm three sixes, anyway.  good point

This is my first time ever posting  a comment on this site. I usually just read what everybody else has to say, but this time I decided to add my two cents on this topic. The argument for be a Christian and playing secular music can go on forever. I have seen this subject come up  numerous times on this nd site. Its like either your for it or against it. Well I'm from Vegas and I have a few buddys who are Believers in Christ and they play on the strip for people like Toni Braxton and the many different lounge shows in the casinos. And they are representing Jesus Christ to the fullest. Ok, they play for secular artist. But what does secular mean??? It means of the world and not of God. So basically if u are saying that it is wrong for Christians to play secular music than my bruthas u need 2 quit your day job, and find somewhere that is Christian owned. The samething that alot of these secular artist talk about in their songs like sex, drugs, and money, U hear it everyday at work. Your co workers may talk about what girl they slept wit, or how they got drunk, or how much weed they smoked over the weekend, or u might even hear alot of foul language. So my question is this.... What is the difference from a Christian who plays secular music, and a Christian who works in a secular enviorment????

What it comes down 2 is that we be a light in these dark places. Represent Christ 2 the fullest. As soon as u claim u are a Christian, alot of eyes are on u. The Bible says that a tree is known by the fruit it bears. So my bruthas are u bearing good fruit?? U shouldnt have 2 say that u are a Christian but the way u live your life should speak louder than words. No matter what u do in life, whether it be selling a sprint phone, or playing on the road wit Beyonce, remember that u Represent the Kingdom of God, and that u might be the only Christian that your co worker may see or what Nas or Jay Z may see. U guys always have negative things 2 say about the ones who are believers and are playing 4 secular artist. But u dont know the plan that God has 4 them. They could be at soundcheck and start ministering 2 the sound man and lead him to Christ. Believe me if Christ was here right now, He wouldnt be in the pulpit of a church, but he would be in the streets, in the clubs, in the place that nobody else wants to go. He would be preaching the Kingdom of God.

I could go on 4ever about this subject but I'm gonna stop right there. So my fellow Levites stay blessed and continue REPRESENTING THE KINGDOM OF GOD!!!!!! Peace and Blessings!!!!!!!
