classical theory vs jazz theory corrections and updates part 3

this is the second week of theory 2 and today we focused on keyboard evaluations
we had an opporutunity to demonstrate our competence with the progressions reviewed last week

on this post i am going to make some corrections to the classcal progressions i posted last week
and give a 2-5-1 exercise
first let me make a correction  to the classical progressions posted last week

the ii6 V I was slightly incorrect'this new version sounds much better it really sounds classcal
and also the I iV V7 was slightly incorrect
 

here is how it should have been notated

the I IV V7

should have been notated as follows

C/CEG
F/CFA
G/BFG

next inversion

C/EGC
F/FAC
G/FGB

what i did wrong was substitute the Root for the flat seven and i should have ommited the five


the next progression
i made a mistake on two of the progressions
I ii6 V7

C/EGC
F/DAD
G/DGB

and the other inversion is

C/CEG
F/ADA
G/BDG

with classical theory it is a craft as apposed to just developing chops that is what my professor said anyway
sure the way i originally wrote them was technically correct  but as your ear will tell you these variations are much more pleasing to the ear


the jazz theory portion is as follows

these 2-5-1 are to be done in every key i will write out the first three

D/FC
G/FB
C/EB
C#/EB
F#/EBb
B/EbBb
C/EbBb
F/EbA
Bb/DA
B/DA
E/DG#
A/C#G#

notice that when you complete the 2-5-1 you simply move the root up a half step

these should be practicexd until you can go through all the keys
and you should work toward being able to do it in a moderate tempo and be able to really swing not just mumble and fumle through the progressions

if you already can play them
then put the shells in the left hand and play the scale over them
you woluld play the c scale when you are playing the c 2-5-1 and the B scale when you are playing the B 2-5-1

ok that is it for today we didnt really do anything else today

To be or not to be that is the question you anwer when you pray practice and read your word
