What is a Turnaround Chord?
« on: November 29, 2006, 07:06:13 PM »
Can someone explain to me what they are and maybe give me an example of such.  Thank you in advance.

Peace and blessings.

A turnaround chord is just a chord to get from one part of a verse to another, most of the time back  to the beginning of the whole song or to a previous sung verse. For example at the end of song like  'I'm a Soldier' you can do this: (these are turnaround chords)

In Eb:
G/Eb-G-Bb
Ab/F-Ab-Eb
A/Gb-A-Eb
Bb/G-Bb-Eb
(Bb/Ab-Bb-D-Gb)- I think this is one of the main turnaround chords for fast songs.

Turnaround chords in Db for slower paced songs:
Ab/Db-Gb-Bb
Ab/C-F-A

You also got turnaround notes such as:

In Eb:

For slower paced songs: Bb,C,Eb,C,Eb..... Go back to the first chord of the song.

This is a turnaround run for fast songs: Gb,F,Eb,C,Bb,C,Eb,F,Gb,F,Eb,C,Eb

Hopes this helps!!!

May God continue to bless!!! :) ;D :D

Blues music uses a lot of turnarounds.

A TURNAROUND CHORD TRANSITIONS BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THE PROGRESSION YOU JUST PLAYED.

EXAMPLE:
DA/EFAC
EC/DGC
FC/EGAC
F#D/EAD
GD/GABD
G#D/FG#BD
AE/GBCE
[AF/GCC#F] THIS IS THE TURNAROUND CHORD BACK TO THE BEGINNING CHORD:
DA/EFAC...

I HOPE THIS HELPED.
