NOTE: On one of my basses, a 4 string, I have it setup with strings from a 5 string bass. It's the same difference though. It just makes it easier for me to thumb the strings twice. (like Victor Wooten...need more practice, but I'll get it.)

I'm having difficulty trying to decipher what all of this numbering means. As I look at these diagrams, I don't understand how it all works.

Can anyone turn the light on for me? I'm sure it's simple but just I don't get it yet  :?

Also, what does it mean to hammer on the fretting hand?
