Ipod/Garage Band
« on: December 21, 2011, 05:03:53 PM »
I discovered that I could purchase Garage Band as an app on my Ipod and did so.  I see many possibilities with this app, but am not technically savvy enough to get full usage from it. I have used the Ipod as a controller and earphones as the amp and enjoyed using the app as a pastime and a learning tool, but have not figured out how to use it with my keyboard as a controller.

Sometines assumption of knowledge causes info presentations(manuals, etc.) to be difficult for those who don't have that knowledge. Using that as my excuse, I ask, What are some of the best ways to put Garage Band to use with a keyboard/external controller.(and) Does everything hinge on having an Apple computer?  Thanks for any comments.

I think most of the transfering of files (backing tracks/sampled instruments) and such can be done with iTunes (and you can get that on a PC) so no you don't have to have a mac.

As far as using it with a keyboard controller, you just need to purchase the camera kit ($30 or so...) it will allow you to connect a usb midi interface between your ipod and your controller and be able to access the ipods/garagebands sounds from there....

You'll want to make sure that your controller is USB compliant (the motifs are... I think)  there are alot of videos on youtube about garageband on the ipod...

if it was me though, the most I'd probably depend on it for (without some extensive testing) is the use of garage band to play and produce backing tracks... (again there is video on youtube about that too)

there are also other means (docks, etc...) that can be used... check out the akai synthstation25.  it's a 25 key controller with a space to dock your ipodtouch and be able to trigger/send midi data to your ipod touch (playing the synths/sounds etc...)

just go to sweetwater and search ipod touch.

this is just a start/teaser.  let me know if I can help anymore.

I'm Blessed To Be A Blessing!!!!!!!!!!
