ok so you have learned how to form a basic seventh chord and minor seventh and a major seventh
and you even learned how to do the inversions.
well here is an instant way to phatten up those chords because lets face it they dont really sound all that phat. just plain like that.
this technique does not require you to know any more then how to form those same chords you find here on the site in the chord bank
i want to start with the first inversion minor7 chord (you can do it with any inversion but this one has the root on top and that suits us very well )
a c7 in first nversion is
EGBbC
take the second note from the top and lower it an octave
so now you get Bb E G Bb C
this is automatically a phatter sound even though you are using the same notes
try this voicing out against a shout bass line they make for good punches
or stabs
use it with a horn sound you may like it
ok lets take the same voicing and now drop the 4 note as well as the 2nd
so now we get
EBbGC this is a two hand chord for sure
but check out how phat the chord just got
and it is the same chord no notes have changed
but notice the much sought after tritone has appeared at the bottom of our chord
try dropping the three
lets look at our original chord again
EGBbC
the third note from the top is G
so we have
G E Bb C
have fun people i am about to get busy with these
i have known about them for a while but i was working on an albertina walker song and i heard these slick chord punches but i couldnt seem to get the sound until i remembered these beauties
