If you go check out the drum room you'll see what I mean. Drummers in that room are always talking about playing pocket. I guess it has to do with keeping time and the groove.

The drummers argue about other drummers that don't play pocket, but they never seem to argue about bass, guitar, keys, organ, brass players playing pocket.

I been starting to play less, I try to only keep the groove and timing in praise songs. In worship songs I guess is a different story, but you can also play less.

Anyone else want to give their input? Any drummers want to comment?

Any instrument can play "pocket".  By definition, pocket playing is nothing more than playing the bare minimum chords, runs, etc. while keeping the same tempo and groove.  It may sound boring and dull at times, but it gets the job done.  Most people don't care if you can play all these "phat" chords and runs, they just want you to keep the beat good and make it through the song.
Real musicians play in every key!!!
