in what song would i use this progression... or what song uses that progression.. that would make me slap myself and say oh wow...

A lot of songs use this progression, although, you may not be able to use every variation that I posted. It depends on the chord you resolve to at the end.

You can experiment by changing the 6 chord then working your way back. I do it this way when I'm practicing, so I can find new ways to do the change.

Depending on the song, you can drop the melody note totally and build the chord off a dissonant or alternate note.
