Back in the late 80's early 90's Yamaha's second in command was the Tour Custom Drums. The line of command was; Recording Custom, Tour Custom, Rock Tour Custom and then Power V (which killed the Stage customs).
Back then Tour Custom was made of birch and then mixed with Mahogany and called Club customs. The change didn't do well for Yamaha sales so they scrapped the line cheapened the wood used and started calling it Stage Customs (sorry owners!)
2006 Yamaha had a line of wrapped all maple shell kits called Definitive. They discontinued it because its sales in North America sucked bad! But they loved it in Europe!
Yamaha NOW has taken the Definitive, stripped it of the wrap, lacquered it in new finishes and some old throw back ones, and is calling it Tour Custom.
