still have joy by Tye Tribbett
« on: August 29, 2006, 08:46:10 PM »
the church  band director called me today and said the choir is going to do "I still have joy" by Tye Tribbett. When he told me my heart dropped down to my foot and i was in total silence for about 5 seconds. :o when he heard my silence he started laughing. he knows where i am musically and he always pushes me. But this is way out of my league. I get nervous just listening to the song. Thadeaus is all other the place with this song. even though it has a traditional feel its very progressive. and there are so many different breaks :'(  A lot of song i can stumble my way across and find most of the parts. but when i listen with my bass in my hand i think he's going to play this note but he's nowhere near it. it's like past left field, over the fence, in last row of the parking lot. I don't think i'm asking for help. i think i'm just whinning.  but i'm going to suck it up and takle the task. but if you can give me some insight. HBO!  Helpa Brotha Out!

Advice, learn the basic chord structure and go from there.  Don't try to do what Thaddeus does.  I've heard 2 or 3 different versions and each one is different but he hits the right notes with the chords.  His fills are what's different.  Even the organ and keys are different when they do it live verses the albumn.
Keep God first and he'll do the rest!!!

First calm down Breathhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Feel better, GOOD :D

NOW WITH ALL HONESTY, LOL STOP PLAYING ON YOUR COMPUTER AND SIT DOWN AND LEARN IT MAN ?/? IF IT TAKE YOU A WEEK OR WHAT EVER
GO TO THE GUITAR CENTER AND BY A BASS TRAINER 150 BUCKS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE IT OLD SCHOOL LEARN 4 BARS AT A TIME AND THEN MOVE ON
THIS IS AWSOME EAR TRAINING.
AS DD SAID WORRY ABOUT CHORD ONLY AS LONG AS YOU ARE PLAYING THE ROOT ON THE BEAT YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE ALL OVER THE PLACE.

NOW POST " I JUST FINISHED LEARNING THE TYE SONG NOTE FOR NOTE "

AND IF YOU LISTEN TO IT ENOUGH YOU CAN

GOD BLESS

PS. AT ONE TIME MY EARS WERE SO BAD I THOUGHT I WAS TONE DEAF sometimes I still wonder ?/?
I have to say this ;D Do you guys really understand what you are doing?? We as bass players are listening to sub harmonic freqs.
THESE ARE SOME OF THE MOST DIFFICULT TONES FOR THE HUMAN EAR TO HEAR AT ALL.
DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT ON A FIVE STRING BASS IF YOU LOWER THE FREQ =90DB AND PLAYED A HARMONIC IT IS ONLY 2 FREQ FROM A ANIMAL CALL.

You can do it bro!

Like ddwilkins said... just get the basic changes down. Don't worry about the complex stops and fills until later. Chances are that things will be simplified for the church's praise team anyway.

Learn the bassics and add the rest bit by bit after that.

It's all good!

This man ask us for help or tab, we tell him to buy a trainer and learn modes. I will post a skeleton tab for this song. Let me listen to it and give me a minute. I listen to it at the music store for about 10 mins.
I think I remembered the main run in it. You can build from that.
Also the bass player is wild, that's in a good way. But tight

actually, he didn't ask for help or tab, just advice and that's what we gave him, but I admire him for saying that he is going to take on the task of learning it.

i pre-shate all the words of wisdom. to teach a man to fish had been my motto. experience has always been my  best teacher. I've been trying to figure the song  out by listening to it over and over and over... without focusing on the runs. I've never tried the Tab thing. i'm not knocking it, its just not my thing. most of the time if i can see the patterns using intrevals i can get it. i was just courious how others bassist approach songs when they seem to be difficult.
