Apparently my friend you misunderstood my post and thought I was addressing ONLY gospel "rap" and "hip- hop" which isn't true.
I personally don't listen to Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Tonex (Ooops), Fred Hammond and many other contemporary "gospel" artist as their music really do not appeal to my taste.  If it is YOUR prefence, then that is your liberty and perogative, but I've personally seen the effects of contemporary/hip-hop verses traditional/devotional music on a congregation of believers.

My preference is totally old school. It seemed to have more depth, more anointing and power.  Artists such as Rev. James Moore & Mississippi Mass, Rev. James Cleveland, The Caravans, The Angelic Gospel singers, The Hawkins Family, Rev. Charles Nicks, Rev. Charles Fold, Rev. Clay Evan & AARC and Dr. Charles G Hayes, which are considered "over the hill" by many, but the effects for me still remain the same.

Be blessed...

Well James Cleveland was a pedophile ( into young boys Reported after his death in ebony as well as other magazines) but you love his music and his life was a mes. But it still blessed you right?

Justa thought: This music may bless young people. These rappers may actually be living the life. Which is better to do music that doesn not appeal or fit traditional church or to do music but also live the life that God is pleased with? :)

What if I said to you that your statement has to do with the time and culture in which you were reared and raised? Some of the artists that you mentioned are 'ok' for me; but, at the same time, I'd just as quickly turn off some of their recordings as I would a Kirk Franklin or Tonex recording.  ;)

And another point what is with all the Gospel singer's having jazzy chords and voicings and singing. Kim Burrell could easliy be in the juke joint with Billy Holiday? He sound is not origianl it's Jazz, a secular medium.

Also I don't really like rap period even when I was in the world so I'm just talking. don't mind me ;D

I tried to stay away from this tired topic (tired as in this has been brought up ever since this board has been online...so that's...for over 5 years  :-\ )

To the one who started this topic, who are you to say what an artist's intent is through their music, God is the only judge of that, not man.

And since you agreed with this person's quote...

Quote
My question in this whole matter is, How is your praise and worship holy unto God (which he inhabits), if its done in a worldly format?? How is "hip hop" tactics a unique form of praise that could possibly draw unbelievers into true holiness if its an imitation of worldliness?? There is an assimulation going on by satan, permitting believers to use HIS tactics to try to wins souls... and the deception is, "WOW, look at the numbers of youth accepting this!"

If you feel that way about Holy Hip Hop, then your views should be the same about "traditional" gospel music, which got it's roots from jazz and blues, Southern gospel, CCM, and ect. All those styles of music were birthed from "worldy" genres. Now, I'm open to different types of worship styles/music, but those that I don't listen to but they're lifting up Jesus and winning souls to Christ, then I'm not going to call them an unholy way of worship, just cause I don't worship that particular way.  ;)

Bishop so, because you do not like the current music of today. Well It must but wrong. God must not like it! Oh thats right, I am missing that part of the bible that says only play the OLD SCHOOL STUFF. Well back in the day when the bible was writen, WELL I WONDER HOW THE CHRISTIANS WOULD HAVE RESPONDED TO A HAMMAND B3 ORGAN SCREAMING OUT SHOUT MUSIC.

THE SAME WAY YOU ARE RESPONDING NOW, CLOSE MINDED AND JUDGEMENTAL

MANOPRAIZE, SO YOU PERSONALLY KNOW EVERY GOSPEL RAPPER IN THE US TODAY, TO MAKE ONE OF THE DUMBEST STATEMENTS THAT I HAVE HEARD ?/?
I bet a bunch of those so called gospel rappers listen to little bit of Neely, for inspiration

IT IS PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT PUSH CHILDREN AWAY FROM THE CHURCH
WELL KEEP ON JUDGING

I rather just end this Topic. Let us all just simply agree to disagree. PLEASE, PLEASE, nobody else respond to this topic(before it gets locked)

P.S. To Thomas 1168: Just to let you know I am 14(a child myself), and being brought up like this has not pushed me away from the church, but brought me even closer and has allowed me to be more dedicated than most teens I know today(not bragging).

Love you ALL!!!

Sincerely ManofPraise(maybe I should made my screen name BoyofPraise)

May God bless all.!!.!

THIS WHAT REALLY BOTHERS ME ABOUT THIS SITE  ?/? ?/? ?/?MAYBE UNDER THE NAME SHOULD BE YOUR AGE.

IT WOULD BE DIFFERENT IF THE YOUTH LEARNED FROM THE ADULTS, AND LISTENED TO WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH, THEY DO NOT ?/?

THIS HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES SO FAR, I DO NOT CLAIM TO CORRECT ABOUT ANY I SAY ON THIS SITE. I ONLY GIVE LIFE ACCOUNTS THAT I HAVE BEEN THROUGH, IN HOPES THAT SOMEONE IN THE SAME SITUATION. IN THE HOPE THAT SOMEONE CAN TAKE WHAT THEY NEED FROM IT.
I HAVE BEEN INVOLVED WITH THE YOUTH MINISTRY FOR YEARS, I WAS ONLY STATING WHAT I MYSELF HAVE SEEN THING THAT ARE OUT OF THE BOX BRING TROUBLED YOUTH TO CHRIST. WHILE I WAS HELPING KIDS GET OFF DRUGS,GET OUT OF JAIL,GET OVER ABUSE, FIND JOBS AND STOP SELLING DRUGS YOU WERE STILL IN GRADE SCHOOL. AND FOR YOU ADULTS THAT HATE RAP JUST TO HATE RAP IF I HAD TO USE POLKA MUSIC TO BRING THE YOUTH TO CHRIST, SO BE IT.

I WILL NOT DEBATE WITH ANYMORE CHILDREN.

GOD BLESS
