If this ain't the silliest question, I've read on LGM in a long time, I don't know what is?  Well, maybe the question about Kirk Franklin revitalizing Gospel music, but this question sure is close. And, I 'ain't' is NOW in the dictionary, so there.
:D :D and this thread is  ::) ::) ::)

Well, doesn't the Bible say that God inhabits the praises of His people?  It didn't say that God inhabits only one type of praise, it says he inhabits the praises.  So, since I strongly believe that gospel rappers are giving praise to God in their own way, I believe that it is acceptable unto God.  Therefore, we shouldn't judge them just because we don't agree on their methods.

No disrepect ManofPraise, I'm just being real and giving my opinion based on what I been taught at my church and what I get from reading the Bible myself!!!

Naw, that's not it. It is just that the churchs are so separated today, because they can't agree on subject such as these. THE CHURCHES JUST AREN'T on one accord these days. The only thing I wanted was to come to a strong foundationed answer.

No disrepect ManofPraise, I'm just being real and giving my opinion based on what I been taught at my church and what I get from reading the Bible myself!!!

First, lets get the scripture right. It says,
Psalm 22:3
"But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel."

...so the BIBLE says that "thou art holy" and David makes it clearly known first.  We then must understand that "holy" means to be sacred, consecrated (set apart). The only way that a "Holy" God will inhabit praise is if the praise is from a holy source.
Now Israel had a form of praise and worship that was so unique and holy (consecrated/set apart) from those heathen/pagan nations around them, that when they where taken into Babylon this what happened,

Psalm 137:3-5
"For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion. How shall we sing the LORD's song in a strange land?"

The way they sung, danced and worshipped was so different, that those who knew NOT God, desired of them mirth (jubalant praise) and songs. God's people should have their OWN style of worship.

My question in this whole matter is, How is your praise and worship holy unto God (which he inhabits), if its done in a worldly format?? How is "hip hop" tactics a unique form of praise that could possibly draw unbelievers into true holiness if its an imitation of worldliness?? There is an assimulation going on by satan, permitting believers to use HIS tactics to try to wins souls... and the deception is, "WOW, look at the numbers of youth accepting this!" The bible again states,

Matthew 7:22-24
"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

...you can't win Nelly by imitating Nelly.... you can't win Lil Jon, if ya snapping yo fingaz like him!

Lord help...

Apparently my friend you misunderstood my post and thought I was addressing ONLY gospel "rap" and "hip- hop" which isn't true.
I personally don't listen to Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Tonex (Ooops), Fred Hammond and many other contemporary "gospel" artist as their music really do not appeal to my taste.  If it is YOUR prefence, then that is your liberty and perogative, but I've personally seen the effects of contemporary/hip-hop verses traditional/devotional music on a congregation of believers.

My preference is totally old school. It seemed to have more depth, more anointing and power.  Artists such as Rev. James Moore & Mississippi Mass, Rev. James Cleveland, The Caravans, The Angelic Gospel singers, The Hawkins Family, Rev. Charles Nicks, Rev. Charles Fold, Rev. Clay Evan & AARC and Dr. Charles G Hayes, which are considered "over the hill" by many, but the effects for me still remain the same.

Be blessed...

What if I said to you that your statement has to do with the time and culture in which you were reared and raised? Some of the artists that you mentioned are 'ok' for me; but, at the same time, I'd just as quickly turn off some of their recordings as I would a Kirk Franklin or Tonex recording.  ;)

I totally I agree with you man. I know it's not narrow-mindedness, people always want to make that same excuse: Well, if it draws the youth...PLEEZE(again)!!!!

I bet a bunch of those so called gospel rappers listen to little bit of Neely, for inspiration.

Folks need to know everything is not Holy and Acceptable just because you're doing it in the Lord's name. And that IS what I think.

O.K., so let me see if I got this straight, yall got a problem with gospel rappers trying to act and sound like worldy rappers.  Is that it?  O.K., I understand that, but what if I you heard some gospel rappers who didn't sound like worldly rappers.  Would you accept them then?  I can truly say that the gospel rapper we got at our church is totally original with his music and his lyrics, so again I respectfully disagree with any and everyone one of you who has a problem with gospel rap, hip-hop, rock, or what ever u think is not true gospel music.  The praises is going to God anyways, so who cares what yall have to say.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Now, T-block, you KNOW Ioves ya man, in Christ Jesus. And, I know when you're passionage about a topic. So, I say this as the student to the teacher (musically speaking), just because we have a difference of opinion doesn't give us the right to be cruel. This last statement was a bit far from Godly; we all have the right to express our opinions.

We can disagree without being disagreeable. Be blessed EVERYBODY!!  ;) :D
