Does The Lead Part To A Song Belong To One Person?
« on: August 22, 2006, 05:59:26 PM »
My friend wanted to lead a song that another person usually leads.  The problem is the person has to miss church a lot because of work.  My friend only wanted to lead the song when the main leader was working.  The Director said it was the other persons song and find something else.

My friend is a good singer so ability is not the question.   It appears that only one person can lead a specific song and if he/she's not there then, like the director said, "find something else"'

P.S. I've heard of choirs that don't sing each others songs and you know if you ask to hear a certain song the director will say, "Oh, the Senior Choir sings that."  Is there a rule of thumb on this?

No, that's a church to church thing; nothing more. If that's how it's done in your church, then it is what it is.

I guess it just depends. I know I used to hate when somebody would sing "my song" and just do it all wrong, but I got over it and grew up. I can understand where you are coming from, even with the choirs having "their" songs. Eventually, we just had to combine our choirs...so in the end, it didn't matter.

Like SJ said, it mainly a church to church and to me it's also a maturity thing.

In my church, if the M-O-M says we are singing "such & such" and the leader says I'm not gonna be here, then M-O-M says well plan B, "so & so" you know this song don't you? "yes ma'am" and she says "well lets go", and the regular leader is cool wit it. But we do have some people that will get ticked off if the choir is singing "their song" and that person isn't gonna be there.  The M-O-M is like oh well, won't be the last time we gone sing it.   :D

Same thing with musicians, directors, & choirs.  There are some songs that the youth choir sing that the adult choir does, and some that the adult choir does that the Senior Choir usually does.  SO WHAT, IT'S JUST A SONG!
If it had not been for the Lord on my side, where would I be!!!

Yeah, people are possessive when it comes to "their" songs.  Personally, I'm usually trying to give mine away!!  :D

It all belongs to and is for the glory of GOD!  Usually when there is an  "i", "me', or "mine" in the sentence it is not of God. That's self-worship. And once we mature spiritual to the point where it doesn't matter who, just What.  Do our best at all times to give glory, honor and total praise to the only one worthy ' One Lord,..."
Saints don't stop praying for the Lord is nigh... Hope that helps.
With  God, all things are possible, if we only believe!

I feel you.We need to quit getting mad if someobody else want to lead the song that u lead.If that was the case the artist that wrote that song could feel the same way.we wouldn't have songs to sing unless somebody wrote a song.To me that is just being selfish and childish. That like if we don't pick the song that u lead that person would not come to church. You should always have alternate person to lead a song that u want to hear.

It's just so funny to here this.. Grown people fighting over a song that neither one of them wrote!! Self worship is just what satan desires to have slip into a church choir. It creates a atmosphere of if this person ain't here then it can't be done. I applaud any MOM that carries on anyway. Especially if the person is capable. What about giving a person a chance who may not sing as well as even the back up.
