I'll say this much.
ALOT of people have this perception that anyone can play the drums. That drummers aren't musicians, and that we're a dime-a-dozen.
Recently a brother came up and sat down on my kit one day while I was practicing. He tried to do something he heard me do.
He was like: "How come I can't do it?"
Why can't you do it? Because I've spent time practicing. I've come to the church to practice while you were home watching Sportscenter (I work for ESPN. Sorry for the plug
). Because I drive my wife crazy with my practice pad DAILY. Because I had to do that lick slowly, then build up speed till I could do it in real time. Then I had to do it over and over and over and over till I could do it at will.
He's not the first person to disrespect what I do. As a matter of fact, I'm going to do a spin-off of this in a new thread. Look for it.
Back to my point......
Many people are under the impression that Keyboard players, Organists (which is what I'm pursuing), guitar players, etc. are more musicians than we are. Ignorance is not bliss. They don't know the time we spend to perfect this craft. And it's a shame because having a great drummer can really amp the energy in a service.
