Good News
« on: July 19, 2006, 08:57:44 AM »
A friend of mine is featuring my Smooth Jazz trio's music on his site. (On the bottom left) This demo was put together about two years ago. If you also go to the customized cd's, look under band demo. You'll see "Restoration Band"...that's us...But we later turned into Eric and Company.

I would like some critic if possible.....that's me on the left with the brown coat on.

You guys sound good! The keyboard player sound good. Does he have a piano background?

What are your drum and cymbal specs? That china sounded nice or was that an OZONE?

What kind of mics?

That was actually a Yam stage custom kit....shure mics and Zil, 14' K Custom, Zil 12' splash and A custom Custom..along with a 12 Wuhan china. The piano player studies Joe Sample...and has played with him on one or two occasions...Bass player studies Chic Corea and Wooten.

sound nice and smooth....like sabe said, what kinda mics,& specs (esp snare, cymbals)

......also this is not related to the initial topic, but i would recommend investing in some real (professional) graphic work on your CD cover art...it could be simple text treatments, which means cool fonts and easy to read - eye catching stuff to the untrained eye....also (cheaper)...but IMAGE is everything, gospel artist in general don't spend enough time in this area on their projects and they tend to come out looking like garbbage ( not saying your project need to look like Isreal New Breed, or Donald Lawrence...but some effort of professialism, if ya can't get nice photos...do a cool font treatment)...I say this to help out the next brotha, but also b/c  your band is good and every little bit helps getting you to the next level...look the part playa. not ragging, but that photo looks like it was shot after a church service or something.....again please take this in loving not trying to bash just trying to help ya get to that next level.

those were the Evans G2 coated...We were all in different rooms watching each other on camera. we dropped 3tracks that day but the key is to rehearse before you get there we had one two hour rehearsal and dropped 3 tracks in two hours.

I understand...sometimes we can be eager to get our stuff put together cuz we know its super HOT and we can't wait for others to check it out....but I just wanted to inform you and others on how we "artist/musicians" need to take out the time to do it right.

I want people to take all my LGM family seriously when we put something out-(we gotta support each other) by the looks of your current CD cover , i don't know if that would ever reach the hands of someone who can do something for ya because it looks like an amateur put it together.....does your homeyboy(graphic artist) have any official training as a graphic designer....i know a lot of people throw that term "graphic designer" around losely these days............ (hopefully this doesn't apply to your friend) but,Just because they happen to install Photoshop on the computer and learned how to play around with a few things doesn't make you a graphic designer.....its a slap in the face for those like myself whom have the REAL training to wear such titles.  sorry, if it sounds like i am venting, i'm just tired of seeing gospel projects on the shelves of music stores across the globe that are super duper WACK... Glad you can take my critique in love, alot of people tend to catch feeling on this site. I just want the best for my peeps.  I would reccomend having a real photoshoot of the band when everybody gets back in town, or either having text treatment if you wanna go the cheaper route. ...you can still be cost effective and look the part homey.

1st impressions are the most important!

I do understand....the acutal guy that did that is a professional he works for the govt. and remember that was about three years ago....his work has improved. I asked him to throw something together for me because I was looking to send something to my brother in Philly. We didn't take it to any stores or anything. Cause that wasn't our goal at the time. we're no longer together as a group but when I get weddings or other events I call those guys.
