Entertaining and Informational......

I've never seen the play, and don't know a lot about them.  But I learned that Loretta Devine, could sang.   Didn't know that

When she hit that last note ..... I thought she gave up the ghost..... for real :o

That's the first I saw that. I don't think I've ever heard anybody sing like that. You talk about getting ugly when you sang..... Lawd have mercy the woman can sang.... I really enjoyed that.
Is that play for sale any where that anyone knows of?????

NO....it's not....lol.....this was from the 1981 original cast back when it debuted on broadway in New York.  There have been many versions since done by different theatres in different cities.  You can buy the CD with the original cast.  And if you don't get to see a stage production anytime soon......the movie DREAMGIRLS featuring BEYONCE, JAMIE FOXX, EDDIE MURPHY, DANNY GLOVER, ANIKA NONI ROSE (Broadway actress), JENNIFER HUDSON (AMerican Idol).....will be out in DECEMBER.

Oh I love Jennifer Holiday.  She is my favorite alto in the world.  I have her gospel album and the Dream Girl soundtrack.  She also did Like A Bridge Over Trouble Water with Luther Vandross and Paul Simon back in the early 80's.  I have every song she has every sang.

Yes, Jennifer and Loretta are great singers (both are hometown girls...Houston!!!)...that's why I was shocked but happy that Beyonce got the part in the movie, keeping it in the city...lol :D

No, but seriously I was so lucky to hear Jennifer sing in person. When her mother was living, she came to sing at one of the black history programs at her mother's school (her mother was my mother's co-worker).

BTW...I love Loretta, I think she and Alfre Woodard are underrated black actresses that I would love to see have better roles.
