Yolanda on BET awards
« on: July 08, 2006, 04:29:32 AM »
Hello everyone I'm fairly new and I enjoy the conversation that takes place in here...very positive(most of it) ;D
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone saw the 2006 BET awards when Yolanda Adams sang Chaka Khan's "Sweet Thang".  I didn't think it was a big deal but CLEARLY others thought it was on Ricky Dillard's site  ::).  I thought as christians, we aren't supposed to jugde others ?/?.  . What do you all think about it?

It was weird cause like with all the musical talent there that night, Yolanda Adams, world renoun gospel artist is singing Chaka Khan...lol.... Threw me for a minute. I'm sure a lot of folks were shocked, I was.

Let's take a look at the song..

I will love you anyway
Even if you cannot stay
I think you are the one for me
Here is where you ought to be
I just want to satisfy ya
Though you're not mine
I can't deny ya
Don't you hear me talking baby?
Love me now or I'll go crazy

[CHORUS:]
Oh sweet thing
Don't you know you're my everything?
Oh sweet thing
Don't you know you're my everything?
Yes, you are

I wish you were my lover
But ya act so undercover
To love you child my who life long
Be it right, or be it wrong
I'm only what you make me, baby
Don't walk away, don't be so shady
Don't want your mind, don't want your money
These words I say, they may sound funny, but...

[CHORUS]

You are my heat
You are my fire
You make me weak with strong desire
To love you chile my whole life long
Be it right, or be it wrong
I just want to satisfy ya
Though you're not mine
I can't deny ya
Don't you hear me talking baby?
Love me now or I'll go crazy

[VAMP:]
You're my heat, you are my fire
You're not mine, I can't deny ya
Don't you hear me talking, baby?
Love me now, or I'll go crazy

I don't agree with her songing about a song about a woman in love with someone elses man, and wanting to satisy him.... There may be some folks that disagree with what I am saying... I don't think that singing that song makes her less of a christian, I just don't think in my opinion that was a good choice for her to sing that particular song.

But I aint even judging her, cause people who have all this to say about her act like they dont listen to secular music... and they act like they never did even if they dont know. I just feel that if you are an icon in the gospel music world, then you should be careful which songs you agree to sing.

But I dont see nobody throwing salt at Missy Elliott for putting gospel songs on her CDs and then the rest of the CD is full of profane sexual content... Or R. Kelly... before or after his little internet video... Or any other secular artist who puts gospel on their CD on track #15, and songs 1-14 is all about booty, sex, and material possesions... Ruben Studdard sang Center of My Joy, but I saw pictures of him on a beach with some big butted nasty lookin women posing like they were in an adult movie.

But back on Yolanda, she is a beautiful woman with a beautiful heart. I feel that if she had sang a Stevie Wonder song, no one would have anything to say. But because of what Chaka Khan may have been known for, and what her song suggests, people look at it differently...

I just pray that before people try to ridicule Sis. Adams, they first look at themselves and say, what am I doing in the eyes of other people that may not seem tooo... uh... KOSHER???

the bible tells us to stand seperate from worldly things and wether or not secular artist add gospel to thier cds to me is cry for help. i wonder how many of the guest gospel artist tell the secular artist that they should get thier life with christ together or just want to get thier check for appearing on the secular artist cd.

you cant blame the world for doing worldly thins but when you have been given and showed the truth you are held accountable

Hello all,
I am also new to this chat room but I have only a few things to say regarding Yolanda Adams performance on BET's award show:

It is a shame before God! The lyrical content of that song suggests fornication.....it does not denote marriage or the marriage bed. It promotes the worldly lust and covetousness.....to desire to SLEEP WITH someone that have no legal, binding and spiritual document or obligation to sleep with! Just triffling.

This kind of behavior is the reason why the church has such a negative view in the eyes of the world. COMPROMISE is what Yolanda Adams' performance.

Pls take a look at G. Craig Lewis' website at www.exministries.com (of course consult the word of God first) to gain further insight as to why GOSPEL artisits SHOULD NOT be partakers with any secular artists.

My church did a segment on secular music, and I think that it was brought up that Kirk Franklin,, Karen Clark, and I think Mary Mary were on record lables that endorsed artists such as Bone Thung N Harmony, Missy just to name a couple. I for one know that it is wrong for the artist to sing secular music.... Yeah, but there are so many other elements that we don't even mention here. Like this... Thanking God for your Grammy for 'whoop dat trick' and artists who have sexually suggestive lyrics and dancers on their CD's and they have a religious experience cause they got shot 9 times... That is a shame before God as well. I do think that was a bad choice for Sis Adams to sing that particular song, yes, but what about the other folk who consistantly misrepresent God, and His kingdom???  Who has the nerve to thank God for their lyrically explicit CD??? Do these artists really think that God made that possible??? If God is blessing them to disrespect women, and rap about drugs and money and alcohol, then I am a little blond girl named Becky wearing a pink polka dot bikini on the beach.....

------- AND I CAN'T SWIM YA'LL!
