Gospel bass playing is very new to me I'm just starting to play with elements that I "hear" in gospel. Like runs that don't have more the a half step between notes.

not scales they are just 4 note runs in the song that would look like this, Eb, E, Fb,F. I hear this at the end of a phrase or during a part with no ltrics. Maybe someone with more experience can elaberate.

Work on the "ear as much and as soon as possible. I neglected that for the better half of the time I spent learning the bass and I regret it. Just turn on what ever you listen to and try to hit notes that you hear. I found that a device by tascam to be a great asset. It's a cd play that you can line out to your amp, and plug your bass right into it.you can loop a section of the song and have that repeat then you can slow it down to catch every note. Some people don't like it, I love it. THe greatest tool I ever got. here's a link

I have the old one, this one adds one or two things and I believe it's easier to use not that the one I have is hard to use, it took about 5 min to learn.

Yes it does. I have one as well.... Some songs are confusing, if you put in the listening time you can work it out.
