Sorry to be the bugger here but huh....Is that a drum demo or a song??
I hate to say that ,though Eric is very talented,he's clearly overplaying the whole song through to say the least.Where is the air, silence, breathing if you're all over it like that.I guess it's now sthg common amongst gospo drumma community to pull off chops all the time. Not that i don't like it,but it has to serve the musical purpose. This song, imho,is the perfect example of what you should not do as a drummer. That is,keep drawing attention on you the whole time and choking up a song instead of letting it breathe.
It's pretty obvious that Eric wants to get some recognition, and it shows way too much by hearing him play, but i think it's def. not the way to go.

Don't get me wrong,he's a sick drummer already, but he's also not a musician at this point in time. You have to understand the meaning and importance of silence to become a real musician and not just an instrumentist.I don't mean to give a lecture as i strive to become a musician too,and i know for a fact that blowing chops for no reason like he does on that tune, will not get you anywhere in this business. There always should be a reason for a drummer to play a fill, and always should it be related to the music.
It's not because you can play licks and chops that you have to.It's all the opposite.Great drummers who've lasted in the business, and left a print in drums history are those who know when to not play a fill.Once again, pocket will get you hired, chops may get you fired.

Thanks for the link anyway.

Sorry buddy but i agree with the other cat Eric is to busy on this track even if he is playing on his site, I could not here the song because the drums are to much. A great friend of mine bobby sparks who use to be kirk franklin music director but now plays with marcus miller once told me you have to always remember the five second rule, when you leave the pocket you got five seconds to come back and that would determine a great drummer or not. Eric is a trick master but not quite a great drummer, good yes but not great, for me it is all about quest love and chris dave those are great drummers. God bless
