PEARL REFERENCE SERIES

doc i played on that kit last night and man it is so right. the shells sound good with any heads. its betta than some dw kits ive played on

Where did you play A gig or in a store or church ? I been thinking about that being my next kit you know what the pricing is like ?

The Reference is the kit. Their isn't a DW kit out there that can compete with that. The Premiere Gen X is the closest out side of a totally tricked out Masterworks Custom. 

You cannot just put any head on it though... like you shouldn't put hydraulics, pinstripes, EC2s none of that on a kit like the rReference. That is like putting cheap gas in a Bently.

That price you are saying is only a 4 piece shell pack if you are lucky.

5 piece fusion  is $2500 - 2600 with more than a 6 month wait for most since only 3-5 people make them.

man my boy had a 10 12 14 16 and a 18 by his hi hat. he did have a loooonnng wait for it. he has a red sparkle with chrome.

I have been saying it for months...since I first got on this board! haha.
Seriously, there is no other kit like it. I got to play on one awhile back, and it solidified my choice. I was tempted to go the SONOR route, but Pearl has my heart.

$1600 is a lucky price that you will not see. Sabe is right, you are looking at about $2500. and it is a about a 6 month wait. However, my shop quoted me $1900 for 4 piece shell kit with tom mounting hardware.
I found a shop online that was selling the kit for $2650 that was a 4 piece with the snare! that is a good deal. So if you look, you can find something. They are really the best right now.

I will have mine by years end, or beginning of next.

man, the two kits ive had chance with sound  very tubby and boxy.

die casts by their nature hem in the overtones - thats why we see them on snares more than toms...  I think the die casts on the pearls ruin their sound.  They do sound good - just not AS good as the hype that preceded them...

anyone noticed Big on drummerworld videos!

mcree is on there, man i was like whoa... and that kid nick smith been on there for a while too man.  but like sabe said, i think the only kit better than those references out would be a masterworks which you would have to custom order man.  they sound sweet, theres a silver sparkle one at the guitar center with a 22 by 20 kick that will make your gut rumble when you play it man.

MasterWorks were actually the prototypes for the Reference series. As people were mixing material to come up with tha "perfect" sound they designers were figuring out what would give that perfect kit. No sympathetic vibrations, tonal seperations and control without muffling.

well, the reference kit is mainly there to be an 'off the shelf' masterworks kit...

pearl have worked out the 'best' sounding combinations, and helped the customers out, because to be honest, most drummers havent got a clue what they want, and that masterworks order form is VAST!

so i wouldnt say the masterworks are a prototype  - just that the reference is a one size fits all kind of a deal.

You wouldn't say that Masterworks was thier prototype? but Pearl does. They were very open in saying that the Masterworks series is what brought about Reference Series, and the word they used was Prototype. Read up on the reviews about Reference.

any kit that is totally custom is always gonna be a prototype - as in NOT A REGULAR PRODUCTION MODEL - so, the reference is a nice bite-sized masterworks prepackaged and regularly produced to the same spec each time
