Why I Left DDRUM Canada
« on: July 05, 2006, 04:24:10 AM »
Sup my L.G.M. ****** and that includes my white ******, sorry Ive been distant Ive just been very busy (I will be calling you guys soon)(you know who you are)(I still gots the love for ya). Some of you have been asking why I left DDRUM Canada so here we go!

Remember I told yall I was going to be on TV last month!? Well I called DDRUM Canada and told them too, when you are with a company thats what you do. But Yo! The kit I ordered a month and a half before this still had not come (I still had my Tamas) So I said to them "I know you have some of thr Diablo Punx kits in send me that and Ill use them on TV, Ill even give them back after". Now who want to play a bass wood kit on live TV!? I was trying to honour my endorsement with them!

So the head of music said yes they will send me a kit! Cool! Let me just add that I would have to spend my own money to re-head the whole kit, cheap kit= cheap heads!

So anyway two days later I'm in sound check and running the songs for an artist from Africa who won the equivilient to your Grammys, I'm M.D. and she plays no games! One hour before the concert we are still running songs (She got in late) when my cello goes off (I have the I-Tunes mp3 phone with real trax ring tones and real stereo speakers built in)(Genuines song Pony is my ring tune, its the best ring tune ever!) Its the sales rep from DDRUM Canada saying "Oh! So you are going to buy this kit (I was getting my kits for what it cost the DDRUM factory)!"

I was like  :-X no! WHY! Would I buy a kit I don't even want!!! I'm being loyal to my endorsement and doing you all good by getting your kit seen by a hundred thousand people who will watch the live telecast! Then he starts up with, we cant get you a kit because once you take it out the box crap and he doesn't know me I can just run off with the kit. I was like yo! I'm doing you all a favor I can just use my Tama Star Classics and be done. Then he start arguing with me!

Saying oh well you were going to buy two kits from us anyway! I was like YA TWO HIGH END KITS (dont forget Im still in a late sound check one hour to go,the artist is getting mad and Im the M.D.) Still trying to be cool with him I said OK I can always use a cheap kit in my house to leave set up just to practice on, Ill pay for it when my high end kit comes in. He said ok Ill tall them to send you the kit. Now Im feeling punked because my Tama star Classics were there looking right at me and Im buying a kit I didnt even want BUT just to show the company some loyaliy Ill buy the things, they did look cool anyhow.

The next day I get a call from the sales rep, um the accounting department says they dont know you yet and that you can just run off with the kit they want you to buy it before they send it! Then he starts to try to tell me off (Ok I told him off the night before) saying Im rushing things and that they want me as an artist but if I dont like things this way I can leave and they will get someone else, (now by this point it was almost two months since I ordered my real kit from them and nothing) Now Im mad! I was hooking them up and they wanted to play the fool!

I was very, very angry the next morning so I called the president of Los Cabos drumsticks and told him what was going on. In Canada we have a high end drum company (like DW)(WAY BETTER AND MORE EXPENSIVE then DDRUM) called Monolith who's name is being changed to Solstice, he told me to call them. Yo I told the president (Bill Hibbs) what was going on, all he said to me was where and when! Yo HE came himself, brought a full kit (and I mean the drums, Sabian Cymbals, Hardware) set it up, tuned them, did the mic check and was my tech. the whole broadcast!

Another time he trusted me enough to leave his house open when he was gone so I could return the artist loner kit. Now that's showing an artist love. I'm having two custom kits built for me by Bill himself.

Most high end drum companies help their artist out, and most would send a kit out for a gig of that nature.

The web site is going to be redone, you cant really see the beauty of these kits in the pictures but here it is anyway. http://www.monolithdrums.com/news.html

You can also see the kit I used at www.myspace.com/phatcurtisbernard  . Ive just redone my myspace site so the main picture I'm playing on the kit, you can also see one of my new custom snares from MOE custom snare drums in the moving picture section.

So ya I ended up writing DDRUM Canada giving up me deal with them, any questions? Yo I'm back to bed its 5:23 am here.

Well, congrats on the new endorsement. It sounds like they're gonna lookout for you. That's important when you need something in an emergency from the company you rep.... And they're  just as good as DW? That's God workin'. What kind of heads did you put on them?

im happy for you  styll god is just showing another one of his blessings.

the fact that they dont no u should be a problem

the problem is that they dont even trust there own artists  like u said u could have exposed the kit to nuff people to get them business but they messed up and lost a good artist.

As I was reading BBD's story, I have to admit some words started festering up that probably should not have, but I am really glad everything worked out for you BBD.  <shaking my head>

As I read--I gather, God is protecting your cross-roads brother. Removing and replacing the neccessary things in your path. Responsibility is heavy. Emotions will arouse; arguments are often displayed to keep away intelligible. An argument can go and on and on... However, when we have understanding and clarity the ifs, ands, buts, whys, hows, etc... really doesn't matter. Then you can move foward with a clean slate. Sounds like that's what has happen here. Blessings in all your future endeavors. One...
